upgrading from 32 bit XP to 64 bit Vista

I want to upgrade my computer from Windows XP 32 to Vista RC1 64 bit. I cant keep my files when i try to install the disk. is there any way i can keep my files? Also will i be able to make this upgrade when the full version of windows vista 64 comes out?

Microsoft released the 32-bit upgrade path, but not the 64-bit path, meaning there are no guarantees concerning the upgrade to Vista x64 editions. All I can say is make sure you keep up-to-date backups of all of your files and try the upgrade...if it corrupts data or simply doesn't work then at least you're prepared to perform a clean installation.
