Strenge Download Problems

by elbig - 9/14/06 6:02 AM

I have a strange problem. I cannot download anything from microsoft.com/downloads. I get "page cannot be displayed". I can howver download from other parts of Microsoft.com and I am having no problems with access to any other websites ot other downloads. This is true for all four computers on my home network. I have a gateway leased through Comcast and they say they have no idea what the problem is. I have clearly tried to turn off all security etc. Any thoughts?

I am not having a problem with Microsoft updating. It is only software that comes from microsoft.com/downloads. In my case I discovered this when I tried to download Activesync 4.2 from windows mobile area. I thne found out that I cannot download anything from microsoft.com/downloads. I can download from other areas such as office templates. XP updates, etc. I was on the phone with Microsoft support today for 90 minutes. They think it is somewhere in my Comcast connection. Comcast syas it is not their problem.

Solved this problem this morning...

Well, in my case any way. I had forgotten that I had done a non-destructive System Restoration on my XP machine the other day. This morning I noticed there were no updates listed in Add/Remove.

Sereral times while attempting to get Windows updates I got the "page cannot be displayed" from MS. Eventually I restarted the computer, attempted to get the updates and was prestented with an option to download Windows Advantage Gateway (WAG)or something like that. Accepted this option and restarted again. After all this I was able to get to the Update page and download the updates. Perhape your WAG is missing or corrupt and needs to be re-downloaded/installed.

BTW, some updates seemed to freeze and not install which seemed to prevent any updates from installing. I had to deselect these particular updates until the other's were installed and the computer was restarted.

I hope this stuff is helpful.
