Hi,
I just bought a top-of-line Dell Latitude notebk with built-in Wifi chip & running Win XP. I have a 2 yr old Netgear router with 2 desktop PC's hardwired into it to share the cablemodem fed internet conn.
My question is: How do I estab the conn on my laptop? I don't know the network name, IP address, etc. and was surprised I couldn't find it via my desktop network properties. Perhaps, the wireless network doesn't exist yet as I've been using it only for wired connectivity so far?
Pls. help!
You didn't tell what model. It might not have wifi. It's almost a sure bet the firmware is out of date too.

I have connected a couple Netgear wireless routers in the past.
If it is indeed a wireless model (usually has an antenna on the back) it is possible that the wireless is not turned on or set to broadcast the ssid.
To find out you can go into a web browser and enter in the IP address of the router. This is usually 192.168.0.1 the default user and password are admin and password. this needs to be performed from one of the hard wired computers.
This will allow you to see the name of the wireless network (ssid), the default is netgear. I recommend changing the default name and setting some encryption. The web interface is pretty basic that should be fairly self explanatory.
