Hi, I'd just like to point out that on one of my two computers, there's a crackling sound when playing iTunes 7. If I did anything else with the computer the crackling would start again. If you're having this problem go to go Task Manager, find the iTunes.exe and right click and set the priority to "highest"
It fixed itself after several restarts of iTunes but if you're having problems, just do what I labeled earlier.
Personally I think that iTunes 7 is a bit bloated....from its already semi-bloated form.
I had the same problem.
Went to Quicktime preference and audio tab.
Change the setting to 16bit and 96khz and it was fix.
Hope this helps.
When you run other programs (particularly games), not only does the static come back, but then the music becomes jumpy. The best solution is to revert back to itunes 6.0.5
