Dual TV Tuner Question...

by kitsap360 - 9/11/06 11:40 PM

First off, I hope this is the correct place to post this, if not, please feel free to redirect me.

Anyways, so I'm planning on ordering a new desktop, and the config has an optional dual TV tuner. I know I'd need a splitter, but is there a specific type of splitter needed, or any splitter?

Links and recommendations would be most appreciated.

:)

Thanks in advance,

Jon-Michael.

My dual tuner didn't require a splitter.

What would it do?

Confused Bob.

I dunno, I've never dealt with a TV tuner before, and I was told you did need it, but, I'm starting to think I was misinformed.

:p

Anyways, I'll go down Circuit City sometime before I order the computer and ask one of the techs there just to be sure.

you only need a splitter if you want to connect

multiple in-line devices and your tuner card doesn't have coax out. for example, the hauppauge wintv-pvr-500 has fm-in and tv-in coax connectors but doesn't have a tv-out coax connector. so if you want to put it ''in front'' of a cable box like this:

cable in ---> wintv-pvr ---> cable box ---> tv (coax)
.......................+------------------------------> tv (s-video)

you'd need a splitter:

cable in ---> splitter ---> cable box ---> tv (coax)
.......................+-------> wintv-pvr -----> tv (s-video)

Ah, okay. I understand.

Thanks for the explanation! Means there's one less thing to buy when I go to by my computer.

:D
