RC1 (Build 5600) problems?
by sbee - 9/11/06 9:04 PMSo the Program Compatibility Wizard failed miserably to make SpySweeper or Cisco VPN run on my machine. So much so that even after uninstalling both these programs through safe mode, Vista RC1 keeps hanging seconds after booting up. Repair option doesn't set this glitch right.
Does anyone have any other issues with the latest build? I just want to be warned before I do everything again.
I now have a triple-boot XP/Vista/SuSE Linux box. Everytime I repair/install Vista, it knocks out my GRUB bootloader for Linux. Extremely irritated!

I installed it yesterday and set all my hardware up. Vista didn't recognize most of it. My network consists of 4, sometimes more depending on what I am working on, computers connected to a hub. There was no option in Vista to connect to the internet through my lan, which is wired. Two options are offered: Broadband through wireless router, and dial-up. Neither of these would work for me. My network connection indicated that I was connected to the internet, but I could't connect to any web sites. I tried IE and Firefox and neither worked. After futile attempts of changing settings, enabling and disablling services, and restarting my computer, I decided to sleep on it. I did a repeat performance today and am now calling it curtains for Vista.

Firt off with the network, I can not connect to any websites, however I do have an IP address and can ping websites on the internet. Second Vista doesn't recognize my onboard sound card, which I thought wasn't a big problem I'd just install the driver, no big deal. Since I can not access websites I can only ping them (I throughly ticked off about this, I had none of these problems in Beta 2) my only choice was to install right off the CD.
So I put the CD in my drive and find that Vista won't read the drive, it know's it's there, it says it's working it just won't read any discs. I have done everyhing I know and it will not work. So at this moment I'm typing this on my laptop while Vista Beta 2 is being reinstalled on my desktop and then from Beta 2 I hope to upgrade to RC1 and see if that yields any results.
