Basically i've found these two as my main choices. I like both for alot of reasons but don't know a broad amount about both. It's come down to which has better video and easiness to store it. The Gigabeat has a smaller screen, by a small fraction. Also it highly relys on Windows Media Center and Tivo that i've heard so far. The Zen looks like an overall good player.
But...
Any buyers can lead me to a choice of better video?
I've had my Gigabeat S30 for about a week now and I love it. Video playback is excellent although it can be a pain because you sometimes have to convert video files over to Microsoft's format in order for it to work. The GUI is slick and easy to use. Syncing with WMP is quick and easy IMO. I get about 3 hours of battery life during video playback.
i ended up picking up the ZVM because the more versatile formats for video, more customizable, doesn't rely on WMP, and longer battery life.
I haven't looked back. I don't think you could go wrong either way. www.dapreview.net has reviews on both players.
I think the screen, audio, and battery life on the zvm is better, but the price of that is a brick of a player (the zvm felt subjectively much bigger to me). I like the UI on the tosh better too.
I forgot one thing, if you're into audible.com you're stuck with the zvm, much to my chagrin.
What is zmv?
This person goes to all ZEN Vision M threads and says the same thing about how huge it is. It isn't huge by any means.
I say the same thing, like consistently? How weird, maybe I should change it up a bit now and then? Dumbass.
The Zen isn't huge, it just feels subjectively bigger and heavier than the Toshiba and Ipod. After using those two, it does feel like a brick to me. A couple friends of mine have commented on its size too. It's clearly thicker and heavier, and about the same on the rest of the dimensions.
acutally the zen is only 5.4 ounces and the ipod is 4.8. and its not thick it may look thick but it feels much more confortable than the ipod. also the toshiba is ok not as good ans the zen. zen supports mpeg1/2/4-sp m-jpeg divx xvid avi wmv8. giga only has wmv and also the zen has 262k color screen. giga has 62k. also giga has 24 in zen has 2.5. also zen has 640x480 tv output. alsi ti has better sound quality and screen and video and photo quality. and the zen also supports tivo videos as they ar ein mpeg2 format and it supports these. no well me that the giga is better.
i have the zvm its great. I would go for it simply because of teh screen, and how easy it is to use. On windows, you can literally right click on something and click, copy to creative zvm. I love that. They're both great, but the zen also has fm radio, and a high quality microphone that i record classes on. Its great, i love it, and it has great battery life.
BTW creative is really reliable and the zvm has been out longer, and it hasnt had many problems.
Not trying to be biased, but in all honesty, i would buy the zvm all over again.
