How 'bout some info?................

by Trance_Zac - 9/9/06 2:44 AM In reply to: slave and master by rockos3354

What kind of PC is this that only has one IDE channel?

Is your HD an IDE (ribbon) or SATA (hard-wired)?

If they are for some reason on the same channel (there should be 1 for HD & another for DVD)

Just go into Set-Up & set the Boot order to boot from CD (DVD) 1st

Corrupt xp cd?????????

by dennisadelman - 9/9/06 12:47 PM In reply to: boot priority by rockos3354

Mabey your bootable disk is corrupt?
But it does sound as though it`s not booting for a reason other than that.
It is possible to copy the i386 directory to your disk then burn it to a cd and then go through the tedium of using a 98 bootdisk with ''fdisk'' to make and format the new partition.
Then you have to copy the files from the cd to the new ''c:'' and access ''winnt.exe'' from there.

Im sure you could copy the i386 straight from the XP cd but im not 100% sure.

As long as your i386 directory on the xp cd aint corrupt it is possible to salvage things.

Long way for a shortcut but it has worked for me before.

good luck

I have one ribbon but the rear of my drives

by DarCLew2 - 9/9/06 7:14 PM In reply to: boot priority by rockos3354

I had a CD-R and it was the slave and my master was the CD-ROM. Later, I bought a CD/BVD-/+ROM and itis my master now. Later, I bought a CD/DVD-/+R/RW and had to set it up as the slave. The CD-ROM and the CD/DVD-/+ROM are a read only Drives. I won't turn my burner into the master and the ROMS into slaves. It sounds like you have them backwards. As for your WINXP CD, it did work on another machine and the same for your floppies do. It seems like the problem is in your setup. On the rear going from left to right, there are 3 double set of pins. first is C for Cable, middle one should have M for Master and the right one would have S is Slave on the Right. If you have a sound wire, that connects to your DVD-ROM - not the burner. Also, make certain that the correct one is used for music. Darrell L.

Are you sure............

by Trance_Zac - 9/9/06 2:44 PM In reply to: har drive by rockos3354

you don't have your IDE channels backwards??

If you have them reversed it will do exactly what you dscribe.

The cable to the inner most part of the motherboard should be IDE0 (HD) with the outer most being IDE1 (CD)
