don't have a digital camera

by duzzy - 9/5/06 10:49 PM In reply to: How many megapixels does your digital camera have? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I can't make up my mind about which one to buy,
there are too many, and half the hype is BS..

I own Nikon and Leicaflex SLRS. It was so simple to choose which camera and what lenses to purchase...

However, in the digital realm I experience overload
(information). There are so many arguements and features, it becomes confusing as to which one to buy!

Peace,

Duzzy

3.2MP Olympus C3040 Zoom

by gwa53 - 9/5/06 11:02 PM In reply to: How many megapixels does your digital camera have? by Marc Bennett Moderator

It's been a great little camera. It seems to be getting a little weary and slow to take pix these days. Have replaced batteries and charger to no avail.

4 megapixels

by jbarney_guy - 9/6/06 12:19 AM In reply to: How many megapixels does your digital camera have? by Marc Bennett Moderator

it's also equipped with a 3x optical zoom, and a 2.6x digital zoom...I have to say, that the digital zoom is useful, and can be satisfying, but only if I use it in one, maximum two steps:)

Five is fine

by adelgado49 - 9/6/06 1:11 AM In reply to: How many megapixels does your digital camera have? by Marc Bennett Moderator

My first digital camera (in 1999)was a sony dsc-50 with only 2.1mp. It had a "WOW FACTOR" back then. I've come up with good colored brochures and product presentations from that tiny wonder. I recently bought a Panasonic FX08 in black body with 5mp and I can't say that my international clients to whom I send product shots are complaining. In fact, business with them is doing quite well! I have always stood back from the "mine is bigger than yours" contest. I just stay cool and say, "oh yeah, mine is better, though." Cheers.

Nope don't use one

by jprkenny - 9/6/06 1:38 AM In reply to: How many megapixels does your digital camera have? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I don't use a camera especially a digital one, they're all to complicated to use, too expensive and break easily. Although these types of cameras do produce better shots than standard ones All I want in a camera is simplicity and good results.

I have 2 cameras and wouldnt be without either

by Shapct - 9/6/06 2:50 AM In reply to: How many megapixels does your digital camera have? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I have a Kodak DX3500 which is 2.3 mega pixels
Disadvantage - not as sharp or detailed as the bigger cameras. Not detailed enough for printing
Advantage - The file sizes are much smaller and I find that the quality is fine for viewing on a monitor. I put most of my photos online so family and friends can view them. The smaller files upload much quicker.

I also have an Olympus Zoom 500 which is a 5 mega pixel camera.

Disadvantage - Files are huge taking up much more hard drive space

Advantage - the quality of the pictures is excellent. Ideal for printing

Conclusion - I wouldnt be without either

7.2 Sony DSC-P200

by mietz - 9/6/06 3:10 AM In reply to: How many megapixels does your digital camera have? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Upgraded from a 2 MP Sony about a year ago.
Don't need or use the movie feature. Wish Sony would lose it in their still cameras. But I guess its in their software and must be pressed forward into all new cameras.

6 is enough

by Trailhop - 9/6/06 3:16 AM In reply to: How many megapixels does your digital camera have? by Marc Bennett Moderator

My 6mp Nikon D70 DSLR captures images that can be blown up to large poster size and beyond, with good resolution. For me, I don't see any sense in spending the extra money for more mega pixels unless I want to start shooting for wall murals. (hmmm...maybe someday)

Digital Zoom

by Keithj - 9/6/06 3:53 AM In reply to: How many megapixels does your digital camera have? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Panasonic Lumix FZ30. 12x optical zoom.

It has digital zoom (as have all the digital cameras I've owned) but I agree that digital zoom is a total waste of time.

If I need to ''zoom in'' more than the lens can, then I'll do it afterwards in the PC.

2 Cameras

by tomlegal - 9/6/06 5:00 AM In reply to: How many megapixels does your digital camera have? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I have a point and shoot HP 735 which is 3 Megapixels and a Pentax *ist Digital SLR which is 6 Megapixels. I do much more shooting with the Pentax since I can do optical zooming. I do like to have the HP to put in my pocket to take with me to take snapshots.

4 MP is enough

by twl845 - 9/6/06 5:29 AM In reply to: How many megapixels does your digital camera have? by Marc Bennett Moderator

If your largest print will be 8X10 you only need 3MP to make a nice print. A 4MP camera will do 8X10 enlargements comfortably. Since most people have printers that will do 8.5X11 paper, buying a larger MP camera is not necessary. I own a Canon G3 that will take a tiff photo 8X10 that will knock your socks off.
