I disagree. it's better if you get rid of old keys not needed. It's kinda like having an Encyclopedia (your computer) and the registry is kinda like the index book. if your adding and removing from the all the other books, but just ADDING to the index (and never removing) it's gonna grow, and it will take you longer to find what you're looking for. It's the same with the computer.

I used to go into the Registry, (regedit) and clean by hand. Removing old entries that were long gone. do a search, F3 the whole way, and find all keys.

I bought jv-16 pwr tools, and let it do it's thing, and my computer now runs alot faster- can tell best at start up. this is sooo much easier.

Tuneup Utilities

What a great little program this is, lots of functionality, registry cleaner, dead and useless file cleaner-upper, speed up tweaks, etc.

It works like a charm and can be trusted. But don't let it install with scheduled sweeps and services. Run it stand-alone when you need to.

the System Optimizer will give you really perceptible speedup on all programs.

Just run it every two or three months, not every day or week.

A hard choice to make

A trial version that will only remove 5 to 15 items doesn't give you a clue about how it will perform or if it is going to create problems. If the vendor is afraid to let me try an operational version, it probably has bugs and I'm not going to buy it.

Many companies offer money back guarantees if your not completely satisfied; however you should actually read the complete warranty, because some of them have a "Catch 22".

Some of the Registry Cleaners will only remove data and not actually repair anything. Which ever one you buy, be sure it includes Registry Optimization as well. If it doesn't include optimization stick with the freebies.

My favorite registry cleaner

by Sally365 - 8/24/06 10:59 PM In reply to: Looking for a good Windows Registry Cleaner by skyemacm

I have been using StompSoft's Registry Repair Software (http://www.stompsoft.com/registry-repair.html) to handle all of my registry cleaning needs. I think that the main reason for this is the fact that this application is just the right amount of "force" for registry cleaning. I know that there are some other registry cleaners out there that talk-up how strong they are, but the problem with that is that these applications attack the registry to strongly and end up causing more problems than they fix. So to get back to your question I would recommend the Registry Repair for cleaning up your Windows registry.
