My favorite browser: Opera 9.01

by quest4748 - 8/22/06 9:18 PM In reply to: Which browser do you use most? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I wasn't impressed when you had to pay for the version without ads but I gave it another try in April of this year. Granted it wont work with every site I visit but it isn't that often that I have to switch to IE (the beta version now with tab browsing). In the past I've tried all the major ones from Firefox to Maxthon and Opera kicks butt on every level. Ease of use, customisation, and the variety of skins has to be seen to be fully understood how amazing the selection is. And then there's the Opera Community (I don't have the words to describe what a plus this is so if you're curious you'll just have to check it out).

I've told friends and family about it but so far none of them seem to get it (and I'm still puzzled by people who stick to IE at all); their loss I guess.

And in closing, the switch (for me) from whatever I was using before is like upgrading from a Ford to a Mercedes 550S (I know this because my brother in law bought one (a 550S) and I rode in it last Friday.

I use IE 6.n reluctantly

by minnman55411 - 8/22/06 9:27 PM In reply to: Which browser do you use most? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I normally use Firefox 1.5.0.n but it has a number of quirks to it that are frustrating. The ''Can not connect error'' screen is the main frustration. It can either mean that the particular URL can not be reached, or worse yet it means that Firefox has totally disconnected me from the internet and all tabs and even I.E. (if I am using that) can no longer function. The only solution is to re-boot the PC. Luckily Firefox has the ability to take me back to the websites I was on prior to the crash because of the extension it has. The Unable to connect error pops up at random and usually when trying to access a link. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for it either. Mozilla hasn't done a thing about it either.

Hopefully either I.E. 7 will have the same restoration feature or Firefox will find a solution for this problem. Firefox also is VERY slow at boot up at times. But the key thing is that is can be quirky at times. I also have had some websites where (thankfully) I have had to use the I.E. feature on Firefox. Mozilla needs to have better support including live support (hopefully from the United States).

What I do like with Firefox is the fact that, yes, there are extensions and I can pretty well set it up as I please. Microsoft needs to take note of it. As far as the tags go I have that now with the Yahoo toolbar which works quite well, thank you.

The important thing is that I do have a choice between the browsers: both have their good and bad points. Let's see what 2.0 for Firefox and 7.0 for I.E. will bring us.

Netscape 7.2

by mamroli - 8/22/06 9:44 PM In reply to: Which browser do you use most? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I've been using Netscape since it came out... it's gone through it's bad parts, but over all I've always liked it and the email portion too.

I do also use Firefox at work, and it's nice... almost the same... some of the features are nice, like I have a Dark Theme on Firefox, and I really can't do much with the skin on Netscape. Netscape 8.1 really didn't look that great to me at all. IE is nice, but picks up too much adware.

I use Firefox v. 1.5.0.6

by electfew - 8/22/06 9:58 PM In reply to: Which browser do you use most? by Marc Bennett Moderator

On every Windows computer I've ever owned since 1994, IE has always been slow. I started out with several versions of Netscape, my fav being 4.79. When that became outdated, the next version didn't work with my Comcast email account- and I don't trust Outlook Express, because of obvious reasons thru the years. I searched around with IE, and found the Mozilla Suite. This was the browser and email client in one, and worked very well for everything. It was my understanding that Mozilla is the platform for Netscape, but is more simple. As usual, when something works well for you, it changes! Mozilla Suite was supposed to be phased out, and Sea Monkey to be the replacement. It worked on some sites, but not others. So since I heard from my husband and read online about how great Firefox was, what did I have to lose, right? I could always remove it from the system if I didn't like it. I did download it, liked it right away, and it doesn't involve scripting like IE, so bypassed that problem. It has some fabulous extensions which are very practical for me as well. I love Forecastfox, Reminderfox, eBay Negs!, netcraft toolbar (blocks and exposes phishing sites), Image Zoom, and Download Embedded- which I just downloaded a few minutes ago. It runs much faster than IE, but keep the IE icon on my desktop for use on sites that only use it. You can go crazy with Add-On's and Extensions, and the more you add, the more you bog down your RAM. So I try to be a bit selective when searching. I would recommend this to anyone, along with Thunderbird- the email client.

by DestinationSakas - 8/22/06 10:16 PM In reply to: Which browser do you use most? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Flock: a mozilla based browser designed by people that thought firefox could be so much better. It is still in it's beta test phase but i have been using it since it's developer preview came out and i LOVE it! I am working on a mac (i'm a professional photographer and amateur web designer) and i have IE, Safari, Opera, Firefox, and Flock. Flock is my choice by far!

I won't bore you with the details, but at least check out the site

Firefox 1.5 for me -- on all platforms

by mdulcey - 8/22/06 10:18 PM In reply to: Which browser do you use most? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I'm a user of multiple computing platforms; I regularly have cause to use Windows XP, Mac OS X 10.4, and Ubuntu Linux. Using Firefox (and Thunderbird for my email) means that I can have the same browser experience all the time, regardless of which system I happen to be sitting in front of at the moment.

I think MS stopped IE

for Macintosh when Safari was released. But you are right... IE is a terrible excuse for a browser - even in Windows... Firefox is much better for that environment. But Safari ROCKS.

With Firefox's Pop up blocker built in, it makes browsing the web more plesent. Also, it prevents a lot of spyware from entering your PC...

ROCK ON FIREFOX!

the edge firefox has over internet explorer is the capability to open muliple tabs in a single window making it neat looking on the taskbar. also, i find the download window very useful in tracking down my activities in the net especially the downloads. :)

Favourite Browser

by Jolly Akpa-Agwu - 8/22/06 11:45 PM In reply to: Which browser do you use most? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I use IE 6 and 7 beta 3 in two of my systems.I have used many browsers like Mozila, Opera but none gave me the fastness of IE because it is the inbuilt browser of Windows. I have been a fan of Firefox for along time. But for an urgent browsing IE is good. There is a lot of attck against IE because it is the best browser. Thus people are working against it by creating viruses. Also they help to find the vulnarabilities against it. Thus helps Microsoft to fix them :).

Internet Explorer - I don't have the engergy to fight it

by sarfraz.jafar - 8/22/06 11:50 PM In reply to: Which browser do you use most? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I use IE solely because I don't have the energy to fight the reistance windows gives me when using any other browser but IE.

Netscape was my favorite until Windows ME seemed to work against Netscape. So many unviewable pages, freeze-ups, and non-functional sites got to me.

I thought I saw the light with Firefox but to download and maintain all the different types of plug-ins to make it work was overwhelmingly time consuming.

I have been assimulated by the Microborg which has coded windows to conflict with competing products. Windows has blurred the line that even the Justice Department of the US can't make Windows play nice with it's competitors unrelated software products.

Father of two, work 40hrs, help spouse who also works maintain house, and casual MMORPGamer I don't have the time to waste or deal with problems online while surfing.

I mean come on....McAfee dosen't even allow you to download any products without IE and pop-up having to be allowed. Isn't that discriminative on what browser must be used to access content on ANY website?

What's the answer when the Windows code can be manipulated to rub other competitative software wrong and we couldn't verify it?

Me? IE7.0

by anton.vanwamelen - 8/22/06 11:56 PM In reply to: Which browser do you use most? by Marc Bennett Moderator

and why?
evry time a new browser comes on the horizon, people jump on it...well I don't anymore, because the rule is most of the time it's a waste of time, learning new tricks of dispapointing stuff. no, sirrie, not any more.
