I have Windows ME on the C: drive. I installed Windows XP Pro on the D: drive afterwards for a dual boot system. C: & D: are 2 physical hard drives. I want to keep Windows XP Pro on the computer (which is on a way bigger hard drive) and completely remove the other hard drive with Windows ME. The older drive is beginning to fail too. Please advise on the steps to do this. Thank you in advance.
The proper way is to back up all your files and then remove the old HDD leaving the XP HDD as the main drive.
Then boot with the XP CD and do a repair installation of XP.
If due to the earlier setup the XP HDD does not get renamed as the C Drive and you want it changed then you'll have to start over with a clean install.
To do this during the setup you choose the option to delete the partition and then create a new one and it will re-assign the HDD as the C Drive.
