I have a client with a site that needs to be redone. He insists that I only do the facelift and he will update the site from there.
He mentioned FrontPage extensions...Sorry for my ignorance but what are these extentions? what do they do? Will my site re-design interfere with this?
My plan was to redo the site interface, but will be he able to update the site?

For Frontpage to interact with the server the server needs to have the frontpage extensions installed (usually done through a control panel or by site admins).
I am not sure what all the extensions handle, but believe they are used for forms, includes, and a few other functions.
If you design the interface and upload it onto a server that has the frontpage extensions installed, they should be able to point FrontPage at that server and grab the site to work on.
Now, Frontpage likes to add code to pages to fit into its schema of things, so it is possible that if you design a page and then the client opens it with FrontPage and then saves it (even if they don't make changes) the additional code/formatting can mess up the design.
I may have missed something there, but that should give you a general idea of what you are dealing with.
I've redone Frontpage sites with Dreamweaver and depending on how much the site depends on Frontpage extensions will determine how much clean up/recoding you'll need to do.
I would make a copy of the site and then open it in Dreamweaver and take a looksee. You maybe able to work with them if the site doesn't rely on them too heavly but the site mabybe a little sluggish due to the messy HTML.
If the site isn't too complicated I'd just recreate it in Dreamweaver from scratch. Probably take just as long and will we a much cleaner code.
