This laptop is about 2 years old and the battery died, although I rarely use the battery alone mostly I use the AC adapter. Is this a "normal" life for this battery? Is it okay to run the laptop on just AC power alone? If I don't need to spend $175 on a new battery, I don't want to!
Laptop batteries can last as little as 6 months, or several years, all depending on how they were used.
But, no, you don't need a new battery if you're going to be using AC power only. The laptop will continue to run just fine that way.
Well I knew I could depend on CNET to answer my question. When I called Toshiba customer service with the same question (using the AC power only), they told me not to use the AC power for anything except trouble shooting because it could cause internal damage.
As for my battery short life, I suspect I may have had a faulty AC adapter and this resulted in the battery being used more than I realized.
Thanks for your answers!
Unfortunetly, laptop batteries don't tend to last more than a couple of years. I would recommend a site called http://www.laptopsforless.com/laptopbattery to find a replacement battery. It is way more affordable than going through the manufacturer and way faster. Hope it helps, it has definitely saved me a time or two.
