I run windows xp, firefox, avg free edition, adware se, spybot, and now have installed ewido. My computer is running very slow, almost freezing up. I installed a program called spyware detector, and it found 120 worms. they are as follows:
1.winfixer
2.funweb products
3.my web search
4. zlob.h
5.win antispyware 2005
6.when u save/save now
6.spyaxe
7.spyfighter
8.desktop hijack
9.tracking cookie
Does anyone know of a good product that is free to remove these, or how to remove them. The program spyware detector found them but now want you to register and pay to remove them. Can anyone help me, it would really be appreciated
I've run into a few of those scanners that will detect some leftover registry entry that has ZERO EFFECT on the PC is is a sign of an old infection now gone and will use that to declare that YOU'RE INFECTED then proceed to strong arm you to pay up.
Let's be clear that the list you provided will handle 99.9999% of known pests but you may find a dead registry entry even with the list you gave.
I'd look elsewhere if those scans were run and you ejected what they found.
It could be that the OS was damaged and we need to try IEFIX and install the motherboard and more drivers again.

Thanks for the help, how do I know if its a con? I know that ewido did find a whole bunch of stuff and i did do the get rid of but not sure how that worked yet since it was late, and had to go. Avg free edition did not find anything, and spybot did find about 11 things and I did fix those to, but still seems to be a problem. IDo you know of a good program to use that would find trojans, worms etc? Or how do I look or fix the problems you suggested it mught be? Thanks again for the help.
I have to go with Bob on this one for sure. A program that says it found that many "bugs" and then wants you to pay to remove them is a clear sign of a scam program. There are many free trusted programs, AVG, Avast, etc. that are free and should also easily find these bugs if they truly exist. However, if you want to take the chance, lay your money down and purchase the program. I truly believe you will quickly be back here asking us how to get rid of a new problem that just happened to start at the time that you installed this program.
The only two that I know of that works decently are
AVG & Spybot. Since these programs are free they are not updated as often as the programs you pay for.
I run 5 anti-spyware/spam programs on my system, they
are: 1)Norton Internet Security 2006 2) Norton System
Works 2006 3)Advance Spyware Pro 4)Windows Defender (BETA) 5)Spybot and I don't have any problems.
If you're going to be surfing the 'NET' you need PROTECTION. You can find these programs on CNET in the download section under software. Read the reviews and do your homework before you purchase anything. Norton costs about $50.00/program also Norton is updated 1 - 2 times a week, Advance Spyware Pro is free to try but cery limited and $30.00 to buy the full verison.Windows Defender(BETA) is free from Microsoft.
I think Norton is the best because if it detects ANY
thing it pops up with a message telling you what was tring to attack your computer. It also comes with anti-spam for e-mail and pop-up blocker for ads.
Also Advance Spyware Pro full edition Highjacker
feature to see if your system has been highjacked. Also it has cookie removal to protect you privacy.
BOTTOM LINE you're going have to buy some type of Internet security program to protect your system. The free ones just won't completely do the job.
The reason I run so many programs is because one prgram will pick up something that another missed and thought it was too low risk.
I hope I help you. I hope you get your system up and running soon.
Thanks for all the help, yes you were very helpful, I have deleted the program that detected 120 worms. i ran ewido and it found 22 items and removed them, spybot found a few and removed. So far the problem is still there. not sure what else to try. I don't mind buying a program if it works, but there are lots out there that don't. I cannot update my windows update even thought everything is set to update automatically, and on the main page there is something with a little x and a square seems like something running there but not sure. Also if I go to shut down always box say end program explorer.exe pops up , when right now I am not connected to internet at all. What could this be from, how do I stop it?
http://www.google.com/search?q=end+program+explorer.exe finds the usual discussion about this. I'd try the first 5 discussions and try the solution noted in the first hit.
Bob
Thanks alot for the help, I think maybe this will solve alot of my problems. I read the first one and it sounds exactly like my problem and that is what is running. I will try when I go home tonight, and hopefully will be computer happy again. Thanks
