Power Usage

by clckn2000 - 8/11/06 8:13 AM

A quick glance at the reviews of the Plasma screens showed no indication of how much power is used by these devices in either active and stand by modes. Nor was there an indication regarding the availability of a user accessable switch at the front to completely isolate the screen from mains power.
I chose Plasma screens to comment on particularly becausethe alternative, LCD screens are less power hungry and therefor have a lower impact.

It is becoming increasingly important for users to be able to assess these features as more pressure, quite rightly, is being put on consumers to reduce their impact on the earths carbon resources and try and reduce each individuals carbon footprint to one.

Here in the UK, we have gone some way to helping individuals to try and achieve this but most people have difficulty because of the lack of information and the reluctance of manufacturers to promote the environmentally economic aspect of their goods. This may be because they are not moving forward fast enough in this regard. Unless information providers such as yourselves include this information about products tested and include this information in the pro and cons areas, manufacturers will feel no pressure to embrace new ideas regarding design and customer education.
