What are my options for 20GB+ player....

by Night Surfer - 8/5/06 3:19 PM

I have had a Zen Vision:M. I loved it BUT....
Too big and bulky and not enough battery life.

I have a Z5. I love it BUT....
It just doesn't hold enough music (4GB).

Here is what I want:

At Least 10GB, preferrable 20 or 30GB.
At least 20 hrs battery life.
Not too big.
Shuffle.
Album Art.
Great Sound.

I don't need video, radio, or voice recording.
I would prefer a user changeable battery.
I don't like being force fed software which is why I tend to avoid Apple. (I choke on iTunes).

Other than that I don't care if it is flash or HD, Apple or other.

If I could just figure out a way to combine the Zen with the Z5:

20GB, 25 hrs battery, great sound, and split the size......PERFECT.

Is there anything out there for me??

Toshiba Gigabeat S

You won't find anything the size of the Z5 at the capacity of the ZVM. It just won't work. The smallest you will find is the 5G iPod, but of course you said no to that, so let's keep looking.

You ask a lot. I think you MAY want to consider the Toshiba Gigabeat F series. 16 hour battery life, thinner than the ZVM, album art, shuffle, decent enough sound.

I honestly can't think of anything else that fits your needs.

IF you're willing to sacrafice album art for size, battery life, and GREAT sound, and a user-replaceable battery, you may want to look around for the Sony NW-HD5. They aren't in production any longer, so you'll need to buy it secondhand, probably eBay.

If you can survive with a big size and no album art, then look at the iAudio X5L(30GB). The think is rather big, but has the best sound I've ever heard on a player, has shuffle, rated 35 hours of battery life.

The problem is very few players don't use software. Player that are UMS compliant don't need software(ex: iAudio X5L)

somewhere, you're going to have to compromise something. Hope this helped.

that's supposed to say Toshiba Gigabeat F series, not S.

the S series only has 12 hours of battery.

Zen Micro Photo/

The Zen Micro Photo (8GB) may be a bit small, but the battery is fairly good at 15hrs. And it comes in lots of purty colors. It also has a ermovable battery pack, so you can add another of Creative's battery packs to make it last longer. (http://reviews.cnet.com/Creative_Zen_Micro_Photo_8GB_gray/4505-6490_7-31570067.html)
The real one you may want, however, is the Zen Touch (20 GB) the battery life is ASTOUNDING (26 Hrs according to C|Net) It also has the Creative brand, which means superior sound. The only thing it doesn't have is a color screen. (http://reviews.cnet.com/Creative_ZEN_Touch_20GB/4505-6490_7-30907933.html?tag=ut)
