I use Opera for my browser and my home page is the Yahoo Mail sign in page.
Fortunately, Opera also includes, on the Address Bar, a small section for Search Pages. This Search Feature includes (by default) Google, Opera Search, Answers.com and Amazon.com.
To add, or change these Search Pages, simply go to 'Tools' menu, choose 'Preferences' and from the tabbed dialog box choose the 'Search' tab and add or subtract the search pages you desire.
Check out the other tabs! The General tab sets your home page, blocks unwanted pop-ups and does other neat things.
PS - If you use any browser other than Opera, shame on you! Firefox is busy trying to catch up to Opera, as is IE. Nevertheless, try Tools|Preferences on your browser of choice. I believe you will find the same options - more or less.
I have used Excite for years. On the one page it can accomodate everything I need including Top Favorites, Latest News, All of my Stocks, all my local movie theaters, my weather, all search engines I want, sports news (my favorite teams results) etc. etc.
I haven't seen any Home Page to equal it in the severn years I've been using it.
Try HomePageForMe.com...you can customize it with your favorite links. When you start your browser, you can then see all your frequently visited websites in one page.
http://www.thebreastcancersite.com
This is my stab at being socially responsible. I hope this inspires someone to click here.
Every time I open Firefox, The Breast Cancer Site is my home page. I can help fund free mammograms with one click. I may forget otherwise to do it daily. I have it on both my work and home computers, too. This site is linked to The Hunger Site, The Child Health Site, The Literacy Site, The Rainforest Site, and The Animal Rescue Site. Each site donates money to their ''cause'' every day when someone clicks there. (They also have some nice giftware for sale; I've only bought twice, but it was stuff I was gonna get anyhow!)
With Firefox's built-in search engine option on the toolbar, I don't have to have one as home page. Formerly I had switchboard.com since I use it a lot, but I put it on the bookmarks toolbar. Just as easy to use.
Thanks for this interesting topic.
I use msnbc news
I've had my home page set to Rush's home page ever since he set up his web site. Always good info and it gives me one-click access to the daily archives and other info (I'm a Rush 24-7 member).
My own web site. http://www.ultrasharpen.com
Torontos daily newspaper
I basically use Safari most of the time and Firefox when I'm checking my Windows Live Mail and editing my Spaces Live.
Honestly it is not that much a big deal to me what mu homepage is becaue the two come with a google search bar to the top right of the browsers. However, it is only Firefox's search bar that is customizeable with chioces from Google through Wikipedia.
My Safari's homepage is the apple livepage/startpage- which is the browser's default and the Firefox is Google. Also the default.
comcast.net.......they are still working out the bugs in ie7, however (i think--since it seems to freeze up unexpectedly---and frequently. the site itself seems rather tricky in that there's layers of pages to keep things snug and secure. i also got mcafee free for a full year and all of its features with it. yaaaay!!!
