Don't worry - the topic will be yanked

by billpoly - 8/4/06 8:27 AM In reply to: Is it just me or are people using this forum to self promote by Dirty Pirate

I'm somewhat guilty of this because I posted a topic yesterday about a great new IT management resource. Today, I find that topic is nowhere to be found on any of the CNET lounges. Even better, this wasn't self promotion! It's not even my site! The link I posted was a referral link, but that's simply to help the owner of the site track who is sending traffic his way. I just thought it would be a good resource for Buzzers in the IT field and I decided to share it. That will be the last time I try to help.

Don't take it personal

Here's the deal, we have to read through so much spam that whenever we see a referral link of any kind, we pull it, plain and simple, this thread will not be deleted, since it's lighthearted and humorous.

Please do not stop collaborating with the forums, if you see an interesting article, please post it here and/or send it to buzz@cnet.com for TMV to take a look at it, just try not to include copy/paste quotes from commercial websites and/or referral links, since they will be most often deleted under suspicion of being spam.

Have a great day man.

Your not guilty

I was not refering to your post. It was just that there had been some posts that refered back to their blogs.

It got me to thinking how someone "could" hijack a forum to push people to thier site. Especially when they are trying to garner the numbers to be able to go for the advertisment dollars. Now, I am not saying that anyone is here.

It is just that I had observed that there was an increase in people commenting on a topic, and blogged about it on their site saying, "I blogged all about this and it is on my site at <insert site address here>". Thus, some will click on the link and read the rest of the story there.

1. I think it is alright when it is something that relates to the topic at hand.
2. Why write all about it when they mav have already done it.

But as I said, I just observed.
