GeForce Go 7400 64mb dedicated w/256 shared turbo cache
by iVisiter - 7/21/06 10:20 AMI was wondering what kind of performance this video card is going to give me in my new Dell XPS 1210. I configured it with Intel Core Duo 2.0 667mhz FSB, 2Gb of DDR2 667mhz Ram, 100Gb 7200RPM HDD, 256Mb GeForce Go 7400 Turbo Cache.

I am wondering if games I play will recognize the 256Mb of Vram as 256Mb or if it will only recognize the 64Mb of Dedicated and ignore the other 192Mb of shared, plus you have to factor in that the GPU is a 7 series GeForce. Also this new turbo cache technology is boasting increadible performance from the shared memory. Over all this new build it going to be a powerhouse for a 12 inch laptop. But I am wondering if it deserves the XPS name. It is being sold as a gamer, but I haven't been able to find out how well it will be able to keep up with the games I play. Specifically Battlefield 2 and similar FPS.

Id advice to stay away from the Turbo Cache technology, however, you seem to have more than enough ram to share. But remember that you will get minus 192 MB of your regular ram available because it will be wraped up in video. The card will recognize that there is 256 MB avaiable but having dedicated memory on the video card itself is a better way to do it. Also make sure you get PCI - Express and not AGP type. PCI Express way faster.
I personally would rather have a higher end 6 series (like a 6600/6800 GT) than a lower end 7 series w/ turbo cache)
It should keep up with BF 2 and current generation FPS games though, so your call.
