I don't understand why anybody would buy a TV......

by Riverledge - 1/14/06 6:29 PM In reply to: Gateway plasma TV problems by ptnted

From a computer company. And vice versa, I wouldn't buy a
Panasonic computer. So, okey, Sony does both, but I
still wouldn't buy one, as much as I like their audio/visual products.

Buyer Beware.

Buy a TV

by fern7 - 1/17/06 7:20 AM In reply to: I don't understand why anybody would buy a TV...... by Riverledge

This forum is about consumers who bought a well-marketed and advertised Plasma TV. In fact it got a very good review on this web site. We do not need to read opinions like the one you posted. I am sure if we all knew the TV's were not reliable we would not of bought them. No thanks for your opinions.

Sorry you feel offended.

by Riverledge - 1/19/06 6:28 PM In reply to: Buy a TV by fern7

I own two GATEWAY computers, and I'm very satisfied with both.
They run with SAMSUNG LCD monitors, I purchased separately.
You sound like you'd buy an SUV from DELL if it were
advertised well enough.

Buyer Beware.

Can we find out the real problem here?

by joefarries - 1/23/06 4:40 PM In reply to: Sorry you feel offended. by Riverledge

Hey guys,
I joined and wrote about how i fixed my plasma myself,a couple of weeks ago.I was wondering if there was a way we could find out if certain gatways from different manufacturer sites are the ones that are ticking time bombs.Or if it is all of them,I havent heard from many of the sister sets,Sampo etc. Having all of the power supply problems of these.I am pretty much afraid to watch mine for more than 3 or 4 hours at a time.I am really one of the lucky ones also.If anyone on here ever has gateway come out for onsite service i think we all need to formulate some type of questions to basically grill these guys on the main problems of these sets and we can do to avoid or fix the problems. There seems to be no information on this subject anywhere. Is it just a large batch of sets that got bum electronice, poor design? We need to know.I though it was both, but i have just noticed that espn uses mostly the older 03 model gateway plasmas on alot of their shows. They must be working for some people.Even for people who have the flickering black screen problem, there should be a way to fix that so the tv could use one external output. The plasma screen is fine its just an input board problem. There has to be a way to bypass that.Anyways we should all work together and share as much info as possible towards a solution.

Flicker........

by JOEWEIBEL - 1/25/06 8:05 PM In reply to: Can we find out the real problem here? by joefarries

The screen flickering on your Gateway is caused by beat noise being generated in the A/D converter on the LVDS process board. As usual, the board is not available and we have to replace the I.C. manually. The I.C. is a micro ball grid array package and requires special equipment and skill to replace. This same board develops pattern cracks after several hundred hours and needs to be replaced regardless.

Offended

by Kaiser Soze - 2/26/06 11:29 AM In reply to: Sorry you feel offended. by Riverledge

I totally agree with the person who finds you offensive for people buying the TVs from Gateway, especially since they were well rated.

And by the way, I had two Gateway computers and consistently received lousy service and help on both.

Opinions are like _ _ _ holes, everyone has one and they all stink. Don't bother responding your abviously useless to this forum.

BEWARE OF D1 REPAIR

by ahandal - 1/25/06 12:09 PM In reply to: Gateway Plasma Televisions Replacement parts. by D1Repair

D1 Repair is the service company that GATEWAY uses to service these TVs. They cannot get parts for your broken sets so they try to buy your broken sets so that they can scavenge them for parts. They then sell these parts to customers as replacement parts for broken TVs.

The fact is they cannot get the parts they need to fix the power assemblies and therefore have to resort to buying defective TVs at pennies on the dollar and selling the salvaged parts for hundreds of dollars. If any of you have dealt with GATEWAY repair you know what I mean.

This smacks of the unethical conduct we are trying to redress through our recently filed class action lawsuit. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us at the address and phone number below. In the alternative you can email Miray of our firm at MHandal@handal-law.com

We have a database of hundreds of complaints regarding these TVs and have consulted with experts who have diagnosed the main issue.

We know your pain.......

by JOEWEIBEL - 1/25/06 7:55 PM In reply to: BEWARE OF D1 REPAIR by ahandal

My company performs the authorized repairs on the Sony, JVC and Samsung plasma and LCD TV's. We are well aware of the problems in the SMPS power supply in the Gateway models and are forced to troubleshoot to component level in order to repair them.
We have many customers each week that express their frustration when we tell them there are no replacement parts being offered by Gateway, it's very difficult to explain how a $2500.00 TV cannot be serviced due to parts availability.
I wish you all luck.
