PLEASSSSSE help.
when i want to shut down windows xp pro, nothing happens..the pc does not hang and i can still carry on opening programs and so on.
when i hold down the power button to shut it down it does, and when i start again i dont get the message saying that windows was not shut down properly, and scandisk does not run... i dont know where to fix the problem...

Have a look at this article from Microsoft. In addition, on xp pro you no longer get "the message saying that windows was not shut down properly, and scandisk does not run".

Try start and click help and go to maintance in Windows --you should get a line of items and one of them is Shutting Down and Starting Up. Follow the Directions and you should be good to go...I had same thing happen me just two weeks ago, the tab to shutdown when turned on was checked but I took it off, reset it and rebooted--done fine ever sence...there are alot of troubleshooting helps there and if that don't work, use them and something should work. i will try this to see if it dixes the prob.
thankz for the advise.....i did install sp2 and still the same problem....i am afraid that i may damage my machine if i do manual shut downs every time.
any aother advise perhaps
