Need Help With Buying PC parts

by Buelltoo - 7/19/06 7:54 PM

Hello Everyone!

I plan to build my Dad a new computer... and I need help with picking out the processor..

His computer is 90% of the time going to be work related.

I am open to both AMD and Intel, and the budget for the computer is around 1650.

Because the Processer is probably the biggest part of the computer, I had planned to spend at the most 650.

Any suggestions of help I would really appreciate it!!

Thanks

Intel Pent D 950

I would do a Intel Pentium D 950 3.4 GHz which is only $350 at TigerDirect, I am currently using it and it is an excellent processor, but if you do prefer AMD more then I would go with the Athlon 64 X2 4200+, it is $390 at TigerDirect. If your father's processing need isn't that much then go with the AMD Athlon 64 3400+ which is only $50 at TigerDirect after $50 rebate.

I will definately put that into high consideration....

I did a little research on the Intel D Processor, and it seems like a great processor..

Thanks so much

If anyone thinks there is a better one for a good price, please reply

How soon are you doing this?

Intel's brand-new Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme chips are shipping as I type this, and they should be readily available by the end of the month. They offer the most bang for the buck. Also, as someone else wrote, you could wait for the AMD price drops to go into effect. They're top dual-core non-gaming processor is going to be right around $300, I believe. But, at that point, if you're spending that much money, you're better going with a Core 2 Duo processor.
