I use a mac daily, but I started testing out xgl using the kororaa live cd and I like it much better and in fact I am using it right now instead of osx. What does everyone else think?
I didn't know about Korrora Xgl Linux! But I did break down and install SuSE 10.1 after a 2 yr hiatus from Linux in general. I've been using Macs and Windows XP. I have also been beta testing Vista for 6 months.
My opinion of Vista Beta against SuSE 10.1 Beta is forget all the bla new and old looking operating systems. None of them, including the latest greatest OS-X and Vista Beta, are even in the same league! SuSE 10.1 Beta inspite of it's beta quirkyness Rules Supreme!!!
Here is why! SuSE has always been a solid if not alittle weird OS and defied conventional ways. This time they've took a step off the Richter Scale! My friends and I have been tweaking and playing with the newest Xgl beta tools installed and updated recently. And WoW! WOW! Freaking WoW! Extremely intuitive and I wish I could post some pics and movies, cuz it is the birthing of a Linux filled World!
True transparency file navigation with Fast Instant search, intoxicating interface, "Minority Report" like 3-D effects that control like something from another planet. Even the old consoles and terminals include a bit of the future with a hit of a "tab" key after a few letters it knows what you're typing and enters it!!! I am so impressed with all the new Novell SuSE developers polishing out of the newest Gnome and KDE Desktops with their own intelligent solutions! Granted you'll still need to do your research and hunt down repositories to get all the media codecs and DVD's working like a "007" Spy Agent. But when the dust settles from this Battle of the Betas, you'll see the Linux Lion roaring like the King it is!
Briefly I stepped back into the present state of Vista, Mac OS-X, standard old Linux, and beat up old Windows XP. Like stepping back into the future booting back up into Xgl SuSE Linux! I will be making a movie soon to show off just how Spectacular this really is. I have Ultimate graphics installed on Skydome {cube background) and the top and bottom of the cube with a new beta Xgl setup utility for colors and effects. With a few keyboard strokes you can Spin right into a movie, or document in a glorious flash. Rotate and spread multiple desktops, zoom into text and print, listen to your favorite music and all in a very intuitive fresh faced jello bouncing folder 3-D way! Gotta see and experience it to know just what it's like and the future looks very brite for Linus Lion OS!
Vista? Well, more bugs than a sow's ear, spyware corporate infested stick and carrot control from Microcrap! I see the Future (including millions of PSP's, PS3's, and cell phones filled with Xgl) and Linux is about to overwhelm the competion once those gamers discover it on their game boxes and cell phones! ;D
You guys thinks XGL is great now, just wait until it starts shipping default with SUSE and all the other distros. XGL built-in.
However, what I'm not a fan of is that currently you can't "skin" XGL's window manager, Compiz. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Hopefully, they'll find a way to have that functionality available by launch.
These Tools are just being developed and are a substitute for the Xgl control panel in Gnome Control Panel!
You'll need the new Xgl and compiz found thru this site linked below!
This set of tools is experiemental, but gives you control over every facet of Xgl and you can put link to Gset cube (icon/right click menu) on application bar. This you can link by going to > Gnome Control Center > Sessions (at bottom) > Startup Programs > now add "compiz-start.py" then click = OK !!! That will add the compiz configuration cube to the application bar the next time you start up. It includes a Themer (if downloaded), and the extremely in depth set of preferences including the missing cube bottom png setup. You can still totally customize the Skydome and just about everything you can think of!

Important to add this site to "Yast" Installation source under http! Remember to eliminate http:// from inserted address as it will add it on it's own! Just click everything in list except "debug info" and "devel", don't need them. This will be in "Software Management" of course to make install easier.
Good Luck and have fun! It's blast using fully emplemented Xgl Linux! Akumaru is still new but very fun bouncing OS-X like Popcorn popper app bar to go with Jello folders etc.

check the download source out you'll be adding just to see what you'll need.
