Best battery operated MP3 player

by eelnavi - 7/11/06 8:25 AM

I'm currently using the 512MB IPod shuffle. It's easy to use and a good choice for my 1st player. I'm looking for a 1GB MP3 player that doesn't need a USB to charge the player. I'd prefer to take 15 minutes to charge the NiMH batteries instead of doing it through USB port. I'm assuming battery charged players last just as long as USB ones.

Nothing fancy but something durable and practical. Don't need radio but a nice visible display would be nice.

I've come across the Creative Nano Plus but would like to hear the opinions of MP3 experts or users.

Thanks.

but i've got two nano+ (512mb and a 1gb). its easy to use, sounds OK, and AAA powered. the 1gb is only about $70 so the price is right too. recommended.

I can second that review of the Creative Nano Plus. After about a month, I have only used 2 batteries and the sound is great, it's easy to use and the 1GB version holds tons of mp3 that sound good at 128kps to my ears. It's the size of a cigarette lighter too

Good question but hard to get a definitive answer.

My current player is a Rio Nitrus (unfortunately, defunct) that charges nicely with an AC adaptor. It's lasted for almost two years now, plays great (I use it for on-air playback at a public radio station) and so I'm expecting it to die soon and require replacement.
My problem is that there is not enough detailed info available about other payers, like do they handle playlists? Can you create playlists "on-the-fly" or can you have to use software such as MusicMatch Jukebox? Questions like that.
c|net has good reviews but somehow they seem to be more concerned with how tiny the manufacturers can make the gizmos than they are with utility. (They're already too small for normal humans--anything smaller than a pack of Marlboros is just too darned small!)
Mr. Kim, how about giving us some info regarding actual use of the players, not mere size, weight and color.

It is PlaysForSure compatible, uses a AAA battery, and is about the same size as the shuffle. also, it has an FM tuner
