I recently bought a new Dell XPS and want to transfer some files from my old computer but don't want everything. One computer (Gateway) uses Windows XP Home and the other (Dell) uses Windows XP Media. Is there a way to do this without having to pay someone? Thanks for your help.
The simplest way is to use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, which is a part of Windows XP. You can click here for instructions.
Hope this helps,
John
Thank you so much John. You just made my day. Have a good one.
...which you should already have. Else, copy to CDs, Flash drives, etc. and recopy to new HD. You cannot transfer programs, which have to be reinstalled. You can alsao install the old HD as a slave at the new system, put it in a USB external box then use Windows Explorer to aaccess the files... Nothing fancy required.
