My old mobo died so I got a new dell desktop and moved the old hard drive over to the dell.
Both drives seem to work fine (Norton Ghost is making things crash - but if I just let it run and keep away from the computer I think it will be okay)
Question is - how to delete windows and other now redundant programs from the old hard drive.
the old drive is the same speed as the new one I believe
The old drive has about 130 GB of stuff on it. The new drive is only about 60 GB
Here you have a couple options:
1.) Just delete the \WINDOWS and \Program Files directories, leaving the other directories and files in tact. However, this will still leave a bunch of junk behind.
2.) Copy any important data off the drive, right-click it in My Computer, and reformat it.
3.) Copy any important data off the drive, pop in the Windows XP CD, and reformat and repartition the drive. You can also use something like KillDisk to securely wipe the drive before starting with a clean slate.
Hope this helps,
John
thanks
I guess these are the options - take out a few things or wipe it clean.
