Recently i noticed several people reaching my company's website through searches about HybridGear. I found this forum while tracing things down, and thought I'd post.
I was the main web designer for HybridGear/FutureTop/EasyPC and was in charge of the internal systems they used(store system{i created a new version that never saw the light of day}, trouble ticket system, and forum system). A few months ago, on a friday i entered the office with a few others to find out that I no longer had a job.
The main reasons behind this were bad techs and sales guys, mainly the two you all have spoken with: David and Stephen. Stephen fried a lot of laptop by not removing plastic from heatsinks, and David, well David lied alot and tended to fry systems as well.
the other main reason was the hosting company, maxipointservers.net, was bought out by someone else. When the new company took over, they wiped all databases including all orders, user accounts, RMA information, everything.
I attempted to get this restored, and even began redoing everything to help bring the comapny back up.
Some employees had problems getting paid, and other were never notified of the shutdown. I don't believe there has been a worse way to go.
HybridGear computers was actually kicked out of the BBB in April i believe, and has declared bankruptcy. Their office was cleaned out about 3 weeks after the close, and no one can contact Matt.
If you guys are having problems with the laptops, chemusa.com is one of the distributors, the other was sager. If you talk with either one, and give them your serial number, then they will let you know whose it is, the latops should all have a 1yr warranty.
The most problematic ones are the CommandTops, the $4,000 ones. So those of you who own one watch out.
I hope this information helps all of you, if you have any more questions, feel free to post, and ill answer when i can.

I actually bought my laptop with Matt (the owner) on the costumer support line. He was assuring me that the company would be great, and encouraged me to buy the 3 year warranty. I am very angry to find out that the company went under because of a few employees. I however would find it to be a great thing if Matt and any other employees were to restart Hybrid gear, with new partners and employees. And if any RMA information is missing than customers could provide proof, of the original purchases. This would make many hybridgear PC owners very happy. I am currently solving my issue with my evo X but considering I now have to figure out any new ones on my own, really sucks. I am 15 and owning a 3500 dollar machine is a huge deal (i saved 2 years of pc fixing , and babysitting money to buy it last year). It kinda shuns me away from making large purchases from small companies. If anyne at hybrid gear decides to rebuild, wether under the hybrid gear name or a new tittle, please post here, as your customers , such as me , really would apprecite it.
Hi,
Sorry to hear about the issues you went through
and hope you get a great job to replace the one
you lost.... It is also good to hear the truth
from someone who worked at HybridGear.
I was right when I noticed the CommandTop was a
Sager built system.
Someone else has a post after this one. A 15 year
old who saved up for 2 years to buy his system and
got a 3 year warranty. There's some possibility
the warranty might be handled through chemusa.com
or Sager.
Sager appears to be a good company. I bought one
through powernotebooks.com and has a broken lid
latch. It was sent and I did the repair myself.
I do NOT work for powernotebooks, but, can give
them a recommendation. Good prices, selection,
and knowledgeable people.
Good luck everyone.

I'm very disapointed that Hybridgear is out of business. I to purchased a three year warrenty thru Hybridgear on a Google discount for my laptop.
So far my machine is still working properly but I am very disapointed in Matt. He lied to all of his coustomers and took our monies knowing he was going out of business. He even confirmed to me that his company was stable and not to worry that Hybridgear would be in business for a long time.
Now we are out our three year warrenty and he has taken the money and run. I would have thought he would have made some arrangement with Sager or whom ever to honor his warrenty. I do know my machine is a clevo but basicly is a Sager.
I have filled a complaoint with the BBB in Austin Tx. The monies paid for the extended warrenty should be refunded or as I said Hybridgear (Matt) should have made other arrangements for them to be honored.
In looking back at the forums I wrote, thinking that Hybridgear was reputable because of what Matt had said is embarising.
Matt obviously doesn't care, all he wanted to do was rip his customers off.

We needed warranty for a laptop bought from them (just a bad firewire port, we ended up getting a pcmcia card). FYI if you just need laber and are willing to pay for parts the laber warranty is still good for 3 years through CHEMUSA - check them out they'll honor this part of the warranty. What we've found about them:
When we bought the computer the owner's name was Matt O'byrne. His cell phone number we had (I can't dig up) doesn't matter because it's disconnected. He started his business at home, and we had to send it in for warranty once previously because of a keyboard issue. At that point they had turned from when we got the computer bending over backwards to help, to busy signals and very unresponsive. We knew something was wrong, so I got the whois information. It was Matt's home/dad's phone number. That number still works, but it just rings and rings to an answer machine. The number is 979-693-7993.
I also talked to the building manager they were in. Apparantly they moved out about 6 months ago, no forwarding address, and all the building manager had was Matt's dead cell phone number and his dad's number (he said he met his dad once and that they lived in town). The manager of the former building's number is 979-587-1319 (I think) and the name is Josh.
This is where we stopped. A $20 PCMCIA card fixed our problem and it wasn't worth it filing a lawsuit since our warranty is gone in about another year anyway. If they took your money and never gave you a laptop, try filing in small claims court and doing a reverse lookup on his dad's address and serving the lawsuit there since it looks like he used to run the business out of his house before moving offices. Maybe that'll light a fire under their but. Besides that do a chargeback with your credit card company if you paid any other way you're pretty much SOL.
