P Reviewer, Have You Checked The Reviews.??..

Since the "best" can only be what YOU decide is best for you, the you'll need to try them out.

See the links below:

And here's a link to a whole slew of free security software including antivirus programs:

I have to think AntiVir is the best

by steve11375 - 7/3/06 6:27 PM In reply to: best free anti-virus by personal reviewer

Hi,

I was a long time user of Symantec Norton A/V, which many will WAIL on here as a resource PIG but I liked it until I needed a new subscription & wanted me to upgrade to 2006, which was awful. After Symantec, I used a FREE version of McAfee from my ISP which I hated, kept getting the dreaded "Black M" for no explainable reason, I RE-Installed it over a dozen times with NO luck!!. I tried 3 different FREE Anti-virus's, AVAST, AVG & AntiVir, just from the get go Antivir finds more virus's, gets updated about 5 to 10 times a day, allows multiple updates for free and is very user friendly!

Hope That helps,
Steve

I've used both AVG and Avast > Avast WINS!!!

by btljooz - 7/8/06 9:19 AM In reply to: best free anti-virus by personal reviewer

I like Avast a LOT better than AVG because it scans a LOT MORE places than AVG does and does it a LOT MORE THOUROUGHLY!!! It simply does a much better job than AVG...PERIOD. I don't care that one has to 'register' once a year for the free version, it's WORTH it!...(you can pay to get even MORE features turned on).

And like Grif said, check the product reviews in the Downloads Section for each program you are interested in. They can tell you a LOT about a program! ;)

Hope this helps you FAST!!!

Fav. Free AV

by Jivedaddy - 7/8/06 3:16 PM In reply to: best free anti-virus by personal reviewer

I've used AVG for years and love the simplicity and "lack" of resources it uses.

I recommend and use it on every customer I do IT work for, and they all seem to love it too!

Haven't tried any others, b/c AVG Antivirus has always worked for me.

Bear in mind, any antivirus program must be coupled with smart computing. Not downloading unknown programs or attachments etc.

I know I.T. people that don't use ANY antivirus because they know how to surf safe, but I don't recommend that.
