Not In Canada

by srvctec - 6/28/06 7:09 AM

Hello there,
I am a sixty-year old newbie to music downloading. All I want to do is get a track or two from the old ''Victory at Sea'' TV show theme to embed in a goodbye presentation for our Royal Canadian Navy friends who are being posted back East.

I discovered Musicmatch and other sites won't download to Canada. And I don't want to have to buy a CD. Any (legal) hints?

Get a US Billing Address and US issued Credit Card

I know...sounds like a bit of work, however, it opens up a lot of digital options, including the iTunes music store which has a better selection for US customers (especially TV/video) than Canadian customers.

I believe Bank of America will issue checking accounts and credit cards to Canadians. You'll need a US billing address however. Use a friend's address or get a UPS mailbox ($150/month) and you should be set. A friend's address is of course, the ideal/least expensive route.

Works for me... :)

A possible link to said MP3?

I see some content in the wide open. Usage rights are something I didn't look at.

I'd rather not discuss it in depth but maybe the above site will directly sell you the track?

Two suggestions...

Napster and Sympatico are both well-known online music stores that are listed by Microsoft as being available to those north of the border. However, you may not have much luck as show soundtracks are not always available. In that case your best bet would to to jump on Ebay...I saw the series on DVD for around $10, so you could rip the soundtracks from that.

Good luck.
John
