sore head

by dennisadelman - 5/14/06 6:18 AM

i have just upgraded to Xp but cant get any sound.
when i go to sound devices in device manager i apparently have all the below devices enabled & working properly...
toshiba dvd-rom sd-r1312
mpu-401 compatible midi device
standard game port
uni-modem half-duplex audio device
audio codecs
video codecs
legacy audio drivers
media control devices
legacy video capture devices
there is also a c-media ac97 audio device but this has a yellow exclamation mark next to it..i have done ALL the advised uninstalling and reinstalling stuff for this particular device all to no avail..
ALL these devices show up in the hardware tab of''sound & audio devics'' BUT the only device that is available on the volume tab is the unimodem device...none of the others are in the drop down box plus it actually says ''NO AUDIO DEVICE'' above where the unimodem thingy is listed as my defaut device.
does ANY of that make ANY sense to ANYbody???????
if so please please enlighten me........also cant find a driver for my old epson stylus color 800 for XP anywhere.........come back commodore 64...all is forgiven

Try...

Installing the drivers for your system from it's maker. Do not think that Microsoft's stock install or update driver will work. Head straight to your machine's maker's web site.

Same for the printer.

Sound Device

See if you can download a proper driver from the C-Media web site: You can start here:
http://www.cmedia.com.tw/driverdownload/e_tech_01.htm.

The yellow exclamation is referring to ''This device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed.''

After installing XP, did you

install the motherboard drivers? That is the next step.
That is where the sound (and other) drivers are located unless you are running a separate sound card. And be sure
sound (audio) is turned on (or on auto) in the BIOS. chuck

The machine's maker or motherboard maker's site since AC97 is not a one version works for everyone driver.

I knew he had a realtek AC97

But I didn't know he was using another, C-media AC97. I can find that driver on http://www.friverguide.com. It is free amd you have to sign up for it. Darrell Lewis
