BenQ Monitor irritation

by briannola - 6/16/06 7:02 PM

Hello. I have a BenQ FP737s monitor and recently I have noticed that my desktop and other programs flash or blink periodically. The severity of the blinking varies. Sometimes it will just flash in a certain area, other times the whole screen will blink. Web pages don't blink though. Only programs that I'm running. Is it my monitor, a virus or something else? I have played with the refresh rate and scanned for viruses but nothing seems to work. My anti virus prog is Avast. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

I have got a Philips 107T5 CRT monitor; it has been in use for 2 years. Recently the screen started flicking (not always, only at times).

I changed the screen refresh rate from 60 to 85; the flicks stopped, but the screen has shrinked :S There's a black frame now (around 1 cm thick) on the periphery of the screen area, as if I have changed the settings of monitor. (which I tried to use to get back to the "larger" view, but alas, no result).

Does the higher refresh rates make the screen area smaller? Or should I worry about some other problem?
