I use JetAudio.
It plays anything, Streaming Real, Streaming Media Player, QuickTime, Etc. It has a small footprint and doesn't care that I don't have Admin rights on my work computer.
But for me the MOST important thing is KEYBOARD controls.
When transcribing audio fast forwarding and rewinding with a keyboard command is a G-d send!
I use WMP because it is part of the OS

With the exception of burning in WMP.
WMP works best on my Windows XP MCE 2005 machine.
I use Nero 7 to burn, and w/Nero 7 and WMP10 you have the Nero Fast Burning Cd/DVD Plugin, which was So popular in WMP 9 (free), but only works on WMP10 with Nero 7 (purchased)

Winamp is flexible, reliable, skinable, and has good plugins available. With good hardware, speakers, and headphones; Winamp provides you with excellent output.

at the moment i use itunes alot simply beacause i have an ipod and because it has the annoying tendencey to reset itself to defalt music player but before that i used WMP because i found the EQ easy to use.

I hardly ever use it because I don't know how to make it work. I get error message can't connect from client to internet. Any help out there for me. Hal

I have been using MusicMatch Pro for years, and have found it to be excellent I'm hooked up to a set of Creative FPS2000 FourPoint Digital Surround Speakers and also use DFX sound enhancement.
I mostly rip my CDs and listen to my tunes in MP3 format, the sound is great, or maybe I have a Tin ear, but it sounds great to me.
I sometimes use WMP again with DFX enhancement, but prefer MusicMatch. This program mor than adequately suits my need.
I recently upgraded to MusicMatch 10, only to find that they had change the way the program handles Music Libraries, ie one big library holds all your music. I preferred the previous approach where I could set up separate Libraries for different Genres, so I switched back to version 9, and would imagine I have done my last upgrade, while they continue to refuse me the ability to set up my Music my way.
In any event, a great program, but since it has changed hands they seem to have lost some of their consumer focus.

Are you sure your using MusicMatch Plus. When you open the program does the screen indicate you are using MusicMatch Plus. The solicitation you mention is usually directed at getting you to upgrade from the basic free version to the (Paid) Plus Version.
When you upgrade and pay your money they send you an upgrade key, which you then have to enter into the basic version to upgrade to plus.
To do this click on HELP on the menu, then click on Registration. a dialogue box will open to allow you to enter the upgrade key, If you have not upgraded the box will be empty, if youhave already upgraded the box will contain you key.
Omce I upgraded, I no longer received the nag screen.

The "nag" screen I keep getting is a notice to upgrade to the latest version (version 10)since I'm using version 9. I don't like version 10 so I don't want to upgrade, but I can't figure out how to get rid of that "nag" box.

Try This;
Open MusicMatch 9
Ckick Settings
Click General
Make sure the choice "Periodically check for Updated Version of MusicMatch" is not checked.
If that doesn't work you may be able to stop it at your firewall.
I use ZoneAlarm Plus, if your using that program, Go to the Programs Tab, under Programs, don't allow MusicMatch Update to access the Internet.
I hope one of these works for you, as I can't thing of anything else to suggest.
Perhaps you might be able to deny it access in the Windows START.

Now I can enjoy version 9 with no problem.

While not the most powerful it is, for me, the more reliable in working with the blend of software I consistently use on a daily basic.

iTunes is great because it works with my iPod and lets me buy songs from the music store, but Sonique, (yes, it's old and development has been dead for while) has by FAR the best audio quality of anything I've tried. I started using it back in 1999, and I'm not stopping now!
