Other (what is it?)
I use Winamp simply because it's neat & does exactly what I ask of it, it's dead easy to use & doesn't take up real estate that's needed for working on my PC (the primary purpose of having my PC----to work!)
I still use version 1.9. I "RIP" my own CDs, then edit the silence from front and back, compress them with a third party program, and then sit back and let WinAMP do the rest. It's low on resources, high on usability, and the joystick interface means I effectively have a remote control beside the bed (I use music and other sound to block out the rest of the world when trying to sleep). Version 2 had queueing problems, version 3 was a mess, and version 5 is bigger than I need.
In a pinch I can take my favorite music on a 133 laptop (what doesn't fit a pocket player), and know that I'm still "wired for sound".

Of all the players I have used so far, nothing can beat the sophistication and yet the simplicity when it comes to ease of use of a WINAMP.
The looks:
Cool skins's.Winamp's skins are simply superb. The colors they offer in some of the skins and themes are very stylish and futuristic.
Ease of Use:
The fact that winamp has its various components compartmenatlized makeS it easy for the user to customize what they want to see when using the player.
The drop down design of the equalizer is a cool feature as it comes handy for the folks who want to get the best of the sound quality/clarity for different kinds of music.
The Jump feature is prob the best I have seen in a player so far. Just hit ''J'' on your keyboard and start searching the track you want. This works especially when you have thousands of songs loaded.
Ohh yea..talk about loading.Winamp adds tarcks really quick and takes very little time start up.Does not eat up much of your computer's resources either.
Overall, a smooth player for audio files.
Yessiree---have been using Winamp for a long time now.
Love the skin-ability-the ease of use-the involvement of the community, and the visualtions are top notch comapred to others also.
But one of THE biggest reasons is that when you want to create a playlist, or que up songs or folder, it's a snap compared to Windows Media Player. All the fussing and confusing paths to doing this stuff in WMP has driven me off of it except for movies.
long live Winamp ![]()
I use Windows media player primarily because "it's there" and Windows seems to be best set up to work with it. HOWEVER--after downloading the most recent update for the program (version 11), I find myself unable to follow the process of downloading mp3 files. What worked just fine on version 10 has turned into a nightmare of wasted time for me and I'm seriously considering making a different playeer my default--which one, I don't know yet. Probably I'll follow the advice I fnd in the opinions of other members of this forum.
Although it comes with DVD decoder (whereas v9 & v10 did not -- only because I had WinDVD already on system did those versions play DVDs), WMP v11 beta requested I lower the screen resolution before it would play a DVD on my external monitor. So, I simply opened up Jet Audio instead, which (a) provides the decoder, and (b) doesn't complain about my screen resolution, and (c) makes fuller use of the screen anyway. QED.
but that bug comes only sometimes, i think that problems comes only if some program is opened too.. i don't know yet wahat kind prgram that is and i'm too lazy to find it out ![]()
but sometimes wmp11 don't say anything and plays dvds fine.
Many reasons,
One: its simple and gives a lot of option on sorting preferences.
Two: the UI looks good on PC, looks much better on a Mac.
Three: party shuffle. it really lets you enjoy the good old radio feel, where you don't know what's going to come up next and yet you can customize it to a certain kind of music.
Four: output quality i feel is far superior than that of any Media Player with any Audio Card of which i have tried a few.
But: Screen real estate is a problem, it's great if one has a spare old PC / Mac to run as a music server.
I have heard iTunes mentioned as an online service, not as a player. Tell me about it.
here is the link: http://www.apple.com/itunes/ and everyone (PC users and MAC users alike) just love it! It makes listening to music and buying music and making mixes of music - so simple!
I downloaded the itunes. I could play music just fine. I like the rating column on wmp. Does iTunes have that, too? I tried to import a video I had downloaded from an internet site. Nothing happened. I tried "open with" iTunes. Nothing happened. I have been thinking about getting an iPod, but not if I am going to have problems with software from the beginning. Help. What am I missing?
I would use iTunes, but I am not sure if it works with Rio MP3 players. I have a Rio CE2100, and use WMP, but iTunes is much better software. Can I use iTunes with Rio?
