I have a quick question (i think...) With dual core processor on new notebooks, am I seriously limiting the potential of the processor by only having 1gb of ram? Will I experience a significant increase in speed if I have 2GB?
More RAM you'll have, the system will be faster. The OS control the allocated RAM. If you have for exemple 512 MB free, you'll be able to open another heavy application like Photoshop and start a photo editing task so the processor will be able to do the task because the OS "says" to it : " Come on, I have free RAM to open the application, run at a higher clock and do all that you want the fastest possible and keep running the other applications ". It's difficult to explain, but try to understand
So yes, more RAM you'll have, less you limit the processor. But I have 512 MB of RAM and I can run multiple applications at the same time. 1 GB is enought for today's applications. 2 GB is really for workers who needs power on demand.
