I have Dell Dimension 8300 with a 300 watt power supply. Dell tells me it can not be increased as it will void their warranty and may damage motherboard components. Is this true? and if so is there a dual monitor card that would support 2 19" LCD Princeton monitors?
Thanks,
Kevin
Changing the power supply may void the warranty. If the comp is still in warranty does it have a card with two VGA monitor connectors on the video card? If so you are ready to go. You can change the power supply and not hurt the mother board, just buy a compatible higher wattage one, if you are going to add another video card, you must make sure the total wattage peak load does not exceed the power supply limits. We would need more information on the specifications of your components in your system. And what video card you would be adding to help. A cheep PCI card should be all you need which doesn’t use but a few watts of power. Also consider Input: DVI or Analog for the proper video card to have the proper connections to feed the monitors.
Could one attach up to 4 monitors on a SLI motherboard with two graphics cards?
Vishwas
Some are attaching 4 graphics cards (pci express)on SLI. So yes depending on the motherboard of course. If quad capable, as said up to 4 but many will handle 2.

Hi, I have a Dell /XP/ and I also have a another monitor by NEC. Dell was contacted for the piece of equipment needed to hook these two up and what Dell supplied us with does not fit. It is off by a hair. If Dell cannot supply equipment for their own computers, what can one do? Thank you for your time.
I don't buy Dell for many reasons. Second, can you be more specific as to the piece of equiptment they gave you? What is it exaxtly? A dual card or splitter box etc...?
Thanks, Paul
Why is almost everyone concentrating on the idea of using 1 video card with 2 ports?
A cheaper and easier solution is to use 2 video card: AGP and/or PCI. If you use 1 AGP and 1 PCI, Windows will automatically make the PCI card the Master or main video card.
Under the Display Properties >> Settings, you will see a icon for each monitor. Now the fun begins,
A) If you place the icons side by side, you will be extending your display area SIDEWAYS, meaning that when you move your cursor on the left-hand screen to the far right, it continues on the screen on the right.
B) If you place the icons vertically one above the other, then you can open 2 separate programs: one on each monitor.
I personally use option A when I play flight or race car simulations.
That's it. Enjoy!
Well I for one don't think that people are like sheep for wanting a dual graphics card with far more capabilites than 2 pci cards that makes sense.
Also there are problems with using the cards in the fasion you mentioned, 1 being, each card will fight to be number 1 many times and not get along as easy as you say. Also, with using a pci and AGP there can be conflicts with both monitors due to the way the AGP\PCI cards run. I am not saying they can't ever get along but there are many issues. A well known issue with two pci cards is same monitor display, where both monitors show the same screen, not quite as one big screen and everything operates simply as 1 monitor. The same when using AGP\PCI. Dual cards have better capability and better software to provide this to a user.
It's the future of dual display.

I was very proud and satisfied to run two monitors. Both my friends were angry.
This is a terrific answer. This quality, accessable guidance is why I joined. Thanks.

I have two computer screens one is on my laptop and ones is a separate monitor. Is it possible to instead of extending my desktop onto the other monitor to have both screens show the exact same thing? The "use this screen as primary" box won't let me function it for wither screen. My main screen has a huge white line down the middle of it so I kind of need this fixed without buying another one.
Thanks,
Mike
