Here is my problem with my 42 ultra bright plasma. I have three 1 inch vertical bars going down the middle of the screen - all 1 inch bars are seperated by 3 to 4 inches. The bars will come and go. Do you know if your fix will also take care of this issue? Thanks.
I followed the instructions as listed, except for laying the Plasma on its side, these tv's cannot ne laid on their side. Once you opened the TV, I could see the burnt plug and replaced. Thanks for posting the fix.
Rchancy: Where did you get thr new plug??
Thanks Ben
We soldered it to thr board, but you can get the part at Radio Shack if you choose to.
I used the NYkidclub's website, and my tv is up and running again. There's still quite a bit of heat being generated, however. I still have to figure out a way to keep it cooler, either by creating more venting or by putting a fan close to the rear of the tv to disperse the hot air.
Anyway, just wanted to let the group know that soldering the wires directly to the circuit board, and removing the faulty plastic plug, worked.
I just opened my 42" up and tried to use your directions. It is laid out completely differently and I looked around for burnt connectors and saw none. It appears my TV is/was manufactured by LG in May 2003 and sold to me in December 2003. The LG model# is PDP42WVSN3.
My symptons are black screen all power switches front and back work along with the remote. Anyone have any ideas?
Same thing here. Gateway 42" Plasma GTW-P42M102. LG board model PDP42WVSN3. Black screen. Power switches, etc all work but once I turn it on I can't turn it back off. Also I hear a click when it first turns on and then again about 5 seconds later.
I have been carefully inspecting every inch of the internals of this TV as much as I can in my spare time between school and work. If someone with this model has succesfully fixed it, please contact me.
Thanks

hi if you have figured out anything let me know i have the same plasma pdp42wvsn3 gateway says sounds like the image board which is 479.00 but non refundable i wish i knew what component on the image board was faulty and i could repair been in the television repair business for years gateway has no schematics and no longer make plasma if you know anything e-mail me njoeandjen@wowway.com
Follow the instruction, I tracked down the issue. Didn't solder it but took the wire out of the plug and sanded off the burnt surface. Everything works now but not sure how long it will last. Might need to solder it eventually. Thanks for the instruction.
I bought a new 50" LG last weekend to replace my 3yr old 42" gateway. Like others, mine would not show the picture and just stays on a black screen.
Since I got the new one, I decided to give your advice a try. What do you know? I worked!!!!
What version of the Gateway 42" did you have, the instructions are not for a LG
I'm not confortable using sodering equipment on my high voltage TV, and would prefer to pay someone to do it. Like most of the posts, I"m not willing to pay the $1000-1500 for BI. Does anyone know who in the San Jose Bay Area capable of repairing plasma TVs? A google search has the closest in Los Angeles.
Besides, when I contacted Gateway, they would only send the parts to a repair shop, and not residential customers. I'd appreciate a good recommendation.
I'm about to embark on attempting this same repair on my TV which went "black" last week. I'm wondering if it is really the same problem because while the TV does turn on, green LED on the front, and it sounds "on" the screen HOWEVER is black but with NO backlight (seemingly). I really hope my fix will be just as simple.
