IDE to SATA for optical drives

Plan to get a IDE to SATA adaptor for my plextor DVDRW drive. i havent done my homework on SATAs and have limited technical knowledge. again just want to make sure this works.
anyone got any input on this?
or recommendations on adaptors?

Be careful, as some SATA to IDE devices prefer to work with their own paticular brand. For instance the "Abit Serielle" works with Hard Drives, but when used in conjunction with an a Abit mobo it also allows IDE to SATA for CD-ROM drives.

by ask4anu - 6/11/06 10:16 PM In reply to: IDE to SATA for optical drives by Tien-Avengerusing an ide adapter you are still limited to the IDE 133 SPECs of your mother board while you will see a small increase in speed from your dvd player it is hardily worth the cost and would just be easier and about the same price to upgrade your computers motherboard to SATA or what ever your budget can afford
and if you have a custom built PC or a name brand PC is also included in the factor most Sata MOBO's have ide as well then you could go all SATA on every thing like harddrive too becuase your computer system wont write faster then 133 or 100 what ever setting you use on your system now is as it is STILL ON the 133 specs or 100 UATA 133 (ultra ata 133 )UATA100 (ultra ata 100)on so on down the line and when you put in say a SATA adapter for just a dvd drive you will get a little speed increase from downloading from the dvd drive to harddrive or watching content from dvd drive but your computers hard drive is only using WHAT EVER SPEC YOUR SET UP IS to WITE ANY DATA AT ALL no matter what you do untill you change your hard drive too then you will see the most INCREASE in speed for your systems preformance
