too many reasons to list
You can't really go wrong with that tv. It's simply amazing.
DVD player recommendations. Do you need a reciever with HDMI switching ?
I like to buy this TV but looking at the prices it varies a great deal, I am talking about as much as $1400.00. Some places are selling it at $3999.00 and some as low as $2589.00. What gives ? Any input is greatly appreciated.
WILL BE phased out to make room for the upcoming XBR2,
in late august/early sept. You will find various discounts as the summer progresses; BEWARE of UNAUTHORIZED DEALERS!, particularly ONLINE. YOU don't get the basic warranty from SONY.
I would not purchase anything from any dealer that is
not from "an authorized" re-seller, NO MATTER WHAT BRAND.
Good shopping,

When you compare any Sony side by side with a d.l.p. or I.L.A. set the Sony will have a jagged edge effect. which effects picture quality I believe folks that buy Sony no blooney need glasses ha ha I believe when you talk to any home theater expert they will agree with me
JVC's DILA and SONY's XSRD have the same LCoS system, for all intents and purposes. I've been more than happy with the JVC products I've owned over the years,
but their Customer Service leaves TOO much to be desired.
Remember, I bought my SONY CRT XS955 for practical reasons. But, I'll stand behind their line.
With Sony going through a tough market shakeup, I'd hardly think going to bring junk to the consumer.

If your talking about the experts from Cnet, Sound and Vision, Home Theater Mag, Consumer Reports, etc they all back the sony SXRD so where did you get your info?
I hope your not doing drugs agian we talked about this.
Maybe your mixing the 50a10 with the 50xbr1 I dont know, but the sony XBR has a soft edges with great color accuracy.
The simplest way would be for you to come to my place and bring a bib because you're going to drool when you see the picture.
The second way (and the most logical) would be for you to actually see this tv in action. Not at Fry's, CC or even Best buy. Go to a high end dealer and watch that tv in hd mode with hdmi hooked up into it. Jagged edges? Dude, I think you need to get your eyes checked. As Gabe said, DiLA is the same technology as SXRD with a few diferent features because of brand issues, it's called LCoS.
DLP is crap, it couldn't hold against the SXRD, I don't care what brand it is. If DLP was so hot like you claim it to be (simply because your poopshiba is a dlp), don't you think Sony would make them?
Face it, Sony has been making tv's far longer than Toshiba or even Samsung. By now, you can be sure that they know what they're doing when it comes to making tv's.
Another thing, and this is what makes me laugh about your tv or any toshiba period. I have heard you talk so many times about you calibrating that damn tv and paying people to come and calibrate it for you that it is so ridiculous. I don't care how picky or avid of a videophile you are but, no decent tv should have to be tweaked and retweaked all the damn time so you could have a nice picture.
Here's the laugh factor.. Ever since I got the tv delivered to my house, I've only had to adjust the video settings twice. Once when I set it up after plugging all my equipment into it and the other time because I had accidentally turned off my surge protector and reset the settings in the tv by accident when Verizon came to install the FIOS service.
In short, the love for Sony is not just a style thing, a money thing or a bragging rights thing. The love for Sony is real because the Sony makes good products, expecially when it comes to tv's (especially when it comes to the XBR series). With that being said, I think it's time for you to sell your tv and get yourself an XBR.
