Firmware Upgrade Sony NW-E507

by cleoz - 5/9/06 7:34 PM

Hey, I'm having a problem with the firmware upgrade for Sony nw-e507. I've followed all directions exactly, the player shuts down halfway through the install and I have to reset the player. Sony's only suggestion is to send it in for repairs. Does anyone have another idea of how this problem can be fixed?

Had the same problem as you. Even tried it on two different PCs. The download on this link solved my problem. The only thing I can think of is the one on the US site is corrupt.

Thank you so much - worked like a charm! I have another question though... I can't seem to get the two extra screens onto my player. I followed the directions on that website and on the Sony website, and the screens won't show up on my player. Any help you, or anyone, could give me on this would be great.

Display Screen

Glad to hear it worked. About the additional display screens I'll warn you that you can only get one out of the two updated ones to work at one time. The instructions say to copy only one into a folder named NWWM-SCR but copy both the Aquarium and Stardust. After you're done copying both files rename one of them with an .old extension. Don't forget to go into the Display Screen Menu and put a check mark next to your new Display Screen, you might of forgot this step. My favorite is Stardust. Let me know how it goes.

OK I still can't get it to work. I tried renaming one of them an .old file. That didn't work, so I tried taking aquarium off the player. I tried a few other things, but stardust never shows up as a display screen option. Maybe there's something i'm missing or overlooking?

Did you get the new "Clock2" display? If not I know it might sound dumb but check the obvious, make sure the 2.00 firmware did get installed (Advanced Menu-Information-4:2.00). Once you confirmed it is 2.00 delete the NWWM-SCR folder and start all over again. You might already have this link but follow the steps:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=NWE507&upd_id=1931&os_id=7

Good luck. If you fix it and it's something else post it so the next poor lad doesn't get mad and end up tossing the player out the window. I've already contacted Sony support and told them about the firmware on the US site.

OK, I feel like an idiot - lol! The mistake that I made was so simple - when I was naming the file on the player, I originally used an underscore instead of a dash, "_" instead of "-". It's working great now - and I also like stardust better than aquarium, but at least now I have more choices. Thank you so much for all of your help on this!
