Semi trucks in all three lanes

by NFCreader - 5/31/06 5:06 AM In reply to: What gets under your skin about other drivers? by Marc Bennett Moderator

That drives me nuts! Everyone sitting at a redlight, when the light changes, everyone has to go up to the next redlight at around 10mph because we are all behind large trucks.

How about the slow poke that takes the last open lane?

by SoylentJames - 5/31/06 9:41 AM In reply to: Semi trucks in all three lanes by NFCreader

You're coming up to a red light, there's two lanes filled with stopped cars, and your lane is empty. Woo hoo! Then, some dorknut crosses 3 lanes to get in front of you so he can have that empty lane. Gah!!! Foiled... :(

Now this normally normally wouldn't be much of a pet peeve except:

The person that just jumped in front of you is always the slowest person when the light changes green. Always. I think it's some unknown physics law of the Universe.

they should not block all driving lanes;

by Jglende - 7/17/06 2:11 PM In reply to: Semi trucks in all three lanes by NFCreader

There should never be a semi in all the lanes; however, it may be that the trucks pulled out of a nearby exit, and didn't have enough room to get behind each other. It is also possible that one or may be getting ready to turn, or one or more may be running empty, and could run faster.
Certainly, if the next light is red, you may not be able to beat it with or without the trucks in the way.
I'm a driver - believe me, the stories truckers can tell you about auto drivers exponentially outnumber anything you could possibly imagine.

Of course they have many stories

by aka_tripleB - 7/27/06 11:59 PM In reply to: they should not block all driving lanes; by Jglende

It's to be expect for someone who spends so much time driving to have many stories. If all drivers drove as much as truck drivers, they too would have that many stories. Do the math.

The point is so very many stories are about how bad 4 wheel drivers are. Easy to find the negatives, but out of 10, 8 stories are negative. Many car drivers are simply not very good.

Reading

by ladystarr - 5/31/06 5:21 AM In reply to: What gets under your skin about other drivers? by Marc Bennett Moderator

You'd be surprised at the number of people who read while driving!!! It's a very common practice in big cities during the morning commute and becomes even more dangerous when said driver calls someone while reading! They put the article they're reading on the steering wheel and even go so far as to fold the paper while driving! My husband is a truckdriver and you'd be surprised at what he's seen!!! He's come close to being hit by a driver who passes him and gets too close because they're reading!

Bad Drivers

by Brenda Thorsen - 5/31/06 5:36 AM In reply to: What gets under your skin about other drivers? by Marc Bennett Moderator

What bugs me is that these inattentive drivers are endangering MY life.
Ya wanna off yourself by driving with undue care by, speeding, talking on your cell, drinking coffee, eating mcmuffin, reading the paper, shaving, applying makeup, or weaving from lane to lane NOT signalling go for it.
BUT leave me out of your suicide

All OF THE ABOVE! but with different CATEGORIES

by Mach1 - 5/31/06 6:05 AM In reply to: What gets under your skin about other drivers? by Marc Bennett Moderator

How can you distinguish one from the other. The categories should have been;

Ignorant drivers - who just do not know the law!

Stupid drivers - those who know the law but forget while they are on the phone etc!

Aggressive (do not care) drivers - those who know what the law is and do anything to tick another driver off! These are the worst!

bright driving lights - fog lights

by lcynck - 5/31/06 9:28 AM In reply to: All OF THE ABOVE! but with different CATEGORIES by Mach1

A real irritant is when oncoming traffic has excessive lighting.
Any safety value in getting noticed dissolves on a 2 lane road when oncoming drivers may simply close their eyes.

Proper alignment and use of extra lights only in low visibility conditions is warranted.

roll on 18 wheelers

by aharris2 - 5/31/06 6:35 AM In reply to: What gets under your skin about other drivers? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I get upset as well about most of the pet peeves you all have discussed. I found myself getting road rage just sitting at my computer at work, reading these posts!
So my pet peeve is the 18 wheelers that think they own the road!
(WARNING:I apologize to you truck drivers who have put in years of hard work on the road driving a truck and doing a good job, & if that's you, this rant is NOT about you.)

This is about the 18 wheelers who:
-run red lights (hello! you can kill someone doing this!)
-speed on the interstate & are just dangerous.
-change lanes onto a poor car minding it's own business.
-speed in town- don't they know a traffic light can change red and they'll have trouble stopping.

by the way i have witnessed all of these situations and it sucks! I bet most of you probably know someone who has been injured in a wreck w/ an 18 wheeler. I just think they forget how dangerous their truck can be, b/c really if they wreck their 18 wheeler w/ another vehicle/smaller car, the truck driver rarely gets seriously hurt.
grrr.........

Some Driver's ED for you...

>This is about the 18 wheelers who:

Ok, let's take on ''run red lights'':

Have you ever noticed that the white dotted lane separation line turns into a SOLID line just before the Traffic Light? This SOLID line means that if ANY vehicle is within it's distance, that vehicle will have the light turn red while within the SOLID WHITE LINE.

Next, speeding on the Interstates is dangerous for ANY vehicle...I agree with you on that ;).

HOWEVER, MOST of the time it's NOT Always the Truck Driver's fault they must speed. MOST of the time it's the fault of the COMPANY that driver works for!!! YES, the fault of the COMPANY that driver works for. These trucking companies schedule loads and drop-offs/pick-ups sooo d@mned close together, the only way for the poor driver to keep their J.O.B. is to speed. What makes it WORSE is that when caught speeding it's the DRIVER that gets the ticket and FULL responsibility for paying it! The COMPANY that scheduled the driver way too tight gets off scott-free!!! (Those fines are EXTREMELY HIGH, also!) So, hypothetically, as a hard working driver, which would YOU choose: Speed and KEEP your J.O.B. and pay high fines? or lose your job because you followed the law and didn't stay on schedule????? EVERYONE needs to lobby to punish the COMPANIE$ as well as the Driver!!!!!

Next, >change lanes onto a poor car minding it's own business.<

Did you know that big trucks have enormous BLIND Spots in places ALL around them??? If YOU can not SEE the truck driver's FACE in those way too small mirrors on the Big Rig, that driver can NOT see YOU!!!!! Nor can the driver see you when you cut closely in front of their bumper!!!!! Nor can a trucker see you if you TAILGATE them!!!!!

Last, >speed in town- don't they know a traffic light can change red and they'll have trouble stopping.<

THAT is a mixed bag. Yes, speeding ANYWHERE in ANY vehicle is dangerous. However, have you ever noticed the ''Walk/Don't Walk'' lights flashing? They are set to flash a certain number of times (according to location and traffic patterns) to Warn that the traffic signal is about to change. In-town truck drivers KNOW these signals and know how many times that Walk/Don't Walk light is going to flash before the traffic signal changes. Try locating some of these flashing Walk/Don't Walk signs YOURSELF and count the times they flash before the traffic light turns red. Do this consistantly at consistant spots (while paying attention to the affore mentioned SOLID WHITE lane divider line) and you will find that you will almost always be able to pace your vehicle so that you won't have to stop and then start again. Stop/Start traffic is hard on your vehicle and it also con$ume$ MORE $FUEL$.

BTW: To LEARN MORE about Big Trucks & their drivers visit

sites like: http://layover.com

Go through these sites with a fine toothed comb to see what Truckers have to say about "Four-Wheelers", Trucking Laws...old and new, as well as finding out what a SPECIAL 'Breed' of people are making sure YOU GET the merchandise YOU WANT and NEED!

BTW...

by dirkn - 6/2/06 5:10 AM In reply to: BTW: To LEARN MORE about Big Trucks & their drivers visit by btljooz

I think we have all agreed on this site that "4 wheelers" are idiots. No argument there. My only point is that truckers are not all angels either.

Post 105 of 159

Yes, there ARE some truckers that

by btljooz - 6/2/06 5:36 PM In reply to: BTW... by dirkn

don't belong behind the steering wheel of ANYTHING, no less a Big Rig, just as there are many MORE 'civilian' drivers that belong in that same group. MY only point is that in that particular 'pie chart', the civilian drivers take up all but a small sliver of the pie. That small sliver does contain the 'Newbie trucker' as well as the 'Cowboy' trucker.

As an ex-trucker myself, I have seen and experienced DELIBERATE STUPIDITY from ALL kinds. All the way from 2-wheelers up to the REALLY Big Rigs with MORE than 18 wheels. (I can tell you some REAL doozies from my trucking days...NOT COUNTING my civilian driving experiences. But there is no room here and this is not the place for it.)

Just suffice it to say that my 'pie chart' example reflects a combination of both my Commercial AND my Civilian Driving Experiences!!!

End of discussion, dirkn, IRKN! ;) :D
