How about drivers who sail through stop signs to get in front of you showing a total lack of respect or courtesy.
Seem to have a lot more then just a few years ago!
Following to close for conditions. There are days I feel like a NASCAR driver, I could be going 75 to 100 and still would find some #@#$%^ that would tailgate.
The Autoban has unlimited speed in some areas with less accidents, but they have strict rules on driving.
You will get ticketed for unsafe driving in a heartbeat.
Also for all you Dodge Ram pickups, Ram is a brand name not a attitude.
driver safe come home alive.
I want to apologize up front for the length of my post, but what started as a simple post turned into a vent for a small part of my anger at these people.
Almost every time I'm going somewhere in my car, I look in my rearview mirror, and some idiot is close enough for me to see the piece of food stuck between his teeth. My favorite thing to do in this case (especially when there is heavy traffic & they can't get around) is to simply take my foot off the accelerator and start slowing down until they get the message. One guy absolutely refused to back off or go around me when there were two open lanes beside us. By the time he finally decided to go around I was going 20... I had been going 50. There is absolutely no excuse for tailgating, I don't care if a car will cut in if you don't keep close! I don't care if twenty cars cut in if you don't keep close! If they do, just calm down and laugh because sooner or later their driving will catch up with them. Just within the past three months, I've personally seen two major accidents because someone moron was following too closely and the car ahead had to hit their brakes. In one of them, as I found out later on the news, a two month old baby died from the whiplash caused by the tailgater hitting the rear fender of the car at 60. Tailgating won't get you to your destination any quicker than following at a safe distance, so for all you tailgaters out there, get a life, and who knows, you might just save one.
...Or if you have to tailgate, do it to a semi so if anyone dies, it'll be you. Wouldn't that be a lovely obituary: John Smith, age 25, was killed in a crash with a semi last Sunday when the truck hit its brakes to avoid a child in the street, and John, having a grand total IQ less than his dog's, was decapitated by the semi's rear fender. In an ironic twist, it was discovered later that the child was John's youngest who had gotten out of their backyard through the hole in the gate that John had made the previous day by pulling into the driveway too quickly. John's body was smashed beyond recognition, the only discernable feature was the imprint of the truck's license plate, reading "DMB-A55," smashed into his forehead. The family, not surprisingly, has decided not to open the coffin for their final goodbyes.
tailgating SUVs (i have a little car)
vehicles that pull up beside mine to make a left turn, effectively blocking my own line-of-sight; and the guy behind me lays on his horn, ''go! go! go!''.
the guy behind me who wants me to make that illegal 'no turn on red' right turn so he can do it, too...
tailgaters at 70 mph--or the driver who wants to pass you but can't, so he just weaves back and forth, back and forth, looking for an opening...
kids who play 'chicken' (passing long lines of cars) on a two way road...
the slow guy in the fast lane
the car pulling the boat who will not pull over and let the fifty cars behind him get on with their lives
I do wish the man ahead of me would turn off his damn blinking turn signal...blinkblinkblinkblinkblinkblink and it's ten miles to the next rest area *g*
people who have bumper stickers that read, in order, ''baby on board'', ''support the NRA'', ''Jesus loves you'' ''america, love it or leave it''...all on the same bumper
the driver that gives YOU the finger when he cuts you off in traffic (gotta love that one)
boom-mobilers who want the world to hear their music in traffic, yes indeedy
Too, too, many trucks and semis on a road with passenger cars. Someone asked me if I was scared being on the German Autobahn. My answer was, No, it doesn't hold a candle to I-65 inbetween the semis.
Also, consider this. If the top speed limit on our roads was 45 mph, almost none of the people who have been killed or maimed on the road would be gone from our lives. How many people do you personally know who would still be here, or still be whole and healthy if that were true?
It wouldn't really affect us in the long run, except that we'd plan and build more efficiently.
Any thing even a fraction as dangerous as driving has been banned from the market. Why do we keep doing it this way?
pax.
the speed limit has been legally set at 55 mph for years, with the interstates usually at 65. the difficulty is, the roads are built for much faster traffic, and it can be numbing to drive along at a sedate 55 on a cross country road. And dangerous.
The most dangerous speeds are not the fast ones, but the ones that are too slow for the traffic one is in.
interstates have slow lanes for the idlers, and fast lanes for those who wish to go faster. They also often have minimum speeds as well.
If a slow driver forces other people to drive around them, or forces them to pass, then they are as big a hazard on the road as the speeder. Keeping up, not slowing down, is often the answer.
At LEAST one trucker...most likely SEVERAL!!!
Reach out and touch ANYTHING you own that hasn't been on a truck in one form or another.
THINK about that.
Here in the South and maybe in other parts of the country, We have those who must be in front. They will not be beat off the line at a traffic signal. They will not follow anyone, with out "drafting".
I had one dear friend say she didn't want to drive fast, she only wanted to be in front of the next car.
As a police officer, I see all of the choices mentioned in your poll. They are all bad. Believe ir or not, cell phones bother me the least. Try driving a police car with all the distractions we have and most of have at least one cell phone to deal with also.
We take our cars for granted and forget it is a loaded weapon much more deadly then the Glock I carry on my side.
jhbonds
You asked which one gets me the most?
You failed to include an option for "All The Above".
Florida seems to have more than it's share of poor drivers. Every day I see people on cell phones, applying makeup, eating, reading in one form or another. Even driving with headphones on.
Then there's those that drive erratically. Weaving through traffic, cutting off other drivers, and getting no place faster than I. All it does is waste fuel....expensive fuel.
We also have a rampant problem with red light runners. Before I accelerate from a light, I look both ways before crosing an intersection. You never know when a car will run a red and cross in front.
This is just a few of my favorite things.
why do drivers slow down when trying to merge onto a freeway. The idea is to accelerate and merge smoothly into the lane of traffic. Sometimes failure to merge smoothly creates severe problems.
People should accelerate in the shoulder lane until they can merge into the lane of traffic. I have had two instances where (with no signal) they "jump" right intlo the traffic flow without realizing the flow is 65+ MPH. For some reason those that do this are oblivious to the fact that they and others could be killed.
Here here. Also, are the people who come up to a junction and pull straight out in front of oncoming traffic blind, cannot judge the speed of oncoming traffic or don't give a f**k for others? And regarding turn signals; I don't think people can be bothered. Its a case of "I'm on the road and as I come first I'll do as I please and everyone else can sod off"
I think that people who are constantly talking on their cell phones while driving have a self image problem. Either they want to look important to other people on the road because deep inside they feel unimportant, or they talk all the time while driving because they are uncomfortable being alone with themselves. If a person has no distractions while driving they get to thinking about themselves and the life they are living and they get uncomfortable doing that.I find the peace and solitude quite relaxing and I enjoy it. People need to think about this and realize what their particular problem is.
One time I pull up to a stop light next to a car with 4 teenage girls in it... So I look over at them and ALL FOUR of them are talking on cell phones!!! In the same car. 4 girls. 4 cell phones. 4 conversations. !!!!
Thank god their windows were rolled up...
Agreed. It really bothers me when someone is talking on the phone and it causes them to drive slow or erratic. Sometimes when I'm really annoyed and I pull up next to them at a stop light, I honk my horn constantly so they can't talk. Sometimes it's the only way to get the point across to them that their stupidity is affecting my safety!
