I recently had my "D" drive data disappear.
The drive is stil shown as "D" in My Computer but no other info is displayed. IF I double click onto the drive, I am asked to reformat the drive which I have chosen not to do.
OS is XP home, Processor is AMD 1.6, Ram is 768, drive in question is Maxtor 200GB that is partitioned to "D" and "E" drives. The "E" drive is working fine. Also have BENQ litescribe CD/DVD and Maxtor 30GB "C" that are working just fine
I tried the Restore option in XP which did not change this issue.
Bios locates the hard drive as does the device manager.
Multiple virus scans by 2 different programs are negative.
Help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Until SP1. Your post made no note of the required SP so that's the prime suspect.
File systems and drives can suffer damage so try http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/UK/welcome.htm to see if you can get your files back.

Sorry, Have SP-2 installed and the drive has been working fine for the last 2 years until last week when it went away.
Am trying the PC inspector software. Will let you know.
Thanks
Tried the application suggested, It came up with a large number of files as "Lost" however, none are able to be opened in their native applications.
Any Thoughts,
Thanks
Such happens. Format and restore from backup.
Bob
Thanks for the advice. Drive reformatted with no difficulty. (other than lost data)
Any reasons for this to occur that I can hopefully avoid in the future??
