My phone has lots of features which I have never used - camera, mp3 player, calendar, address book. These are all better elsewhere, and as I have a tendency to lose phones I don't want other people's personal data lost as well. But I do use it as a modem with my laptop when travelling. GPRS is cheaper than landline dial up and twice as fast. I also have sat nav on my Palm, and link with the phone to get the traffic updates. I have been using mobile phones since they were the size of bricks. The best phone I have ever had was a Sony Ericsson T68i. It was tiny, light, reliable and did everything I wanted including bluetooth. Since then phones have got heavier and battery life is back where it was 15 years ago (ie charge every day rather than once or twice a week) because of all these unnecessary features. Perhaps I should sign myself grumpy old woman!
I'm still using my Alcatel 525 for that very reason. Tiny, lightweight, doesn't need charging more than once a week - long may it last!
What is it with people having REALLY personal phone conversations in public places!?
...like 2 feet behind me at the movie theatre concession stand the other day. Seriously, it was something about this woman's daughter and her illness and her messed up life. ***!! SHUT UP and be considerate of others!
And Nextel? Ever stand in line waiting to order lunch and some 13-year-old schmuck is behind you talking about absolutely NOTHING with his buddy...WHO IS SITTING OUTSIDE AT A TABLE! Endless beeping back and forth for twenty minutes. ***!
PLEASE people, GET REAL!
I have a roundtrip commute to work of 2 hours. i use my Treo phone to listen to books, using the Audible.com software.

I've always espoused the concept of a device doing one thing and doing it well. My cell phone is a perfect example of that concept - when I want a camera I use a camera, not a phone.
You can not buy a basic phone anymore! It seems from looking at the poll results I am not in the minority on this one.
The original poster to this thread said it all. They have a great camera and I have a great camera. Why do we need some dinky little camera with low resolution for? I had the "pleasure" of using a camera phone this past weekend in a bad lighting situiation, and I got what I saw, a picture with bad lighting. I've seen throw aways that make better pictures.
Mostly calls
Occasional text messaging ( I will be happy if I can avoid it)
Use it as alarm clock
cheers
Being of the older generation I have a hard time seeing the number on many of the models. I also spent alot of time finding phones that would let you increase the font size so I did not have to put on reading glasses, while driving, to read the screen.
As a teaher I have to watch for IM, pictures, wireless ear pieces while taking tests. Yes, our school does not permit phones but there are always students that will cheat. So the phone has become a new "cheat sheet" for students. In my day we just wrote it on our thigh and lifted up a hem of our skirts alittle during the test...only kidding?
Cell phones are great!
I use my cellphone solely for what it is intended to do best: making and receiving phone calls. In fact, it is such an intrusion into my privacy that I keep mine switched off most of the time, using it only when I am mobile and far from a landline telephone.
If I want to take photos, I use my digital camera.
I do not play games.
If I want to listen to music, I use my hi-fi.
If I want to do internet browsing, I use my desktop PC.
If I want to boil water to make coffee, I use an electric coffee kettle.
Cell phones do all of these things less than perfect.

Hank
My Treo 600 is a replacement fot my Handspring Visor Deluxe telephone springboard. Since I used the Handspring Visor it was stuck into primarily for reading books, there has been no real change in my usage. However, I have upgraded my T-Mobile service to a significant amont of hours, I use it a lat more times as a telephone than previously.
Other than the rare use of my cell phone I use it for a paper weight. I'm not a big fan.
I never call txt msgs are so much more convienient.
Hmmm, lets see.
it is a phone, right? it has a phone book, right?
the only other thing i do with mine is use it as a modem when there isn't a hot spot available for my laptop.
gotta love the upper mid-west.
(hot spot? what is that?)
games? that is what the laptop is for.
Pictures? Uhh, isn't that why we bought those digital cameras?
Maybe a text message once in a while. but those cost more on my cell plan than using it as a modem.
Just my two cents. . .
