by ibmacse - 5/1/06 1:43 PM

I'm thinking about getting an alienware laptop for 3D animation. I need to know everything about them.

Good Choice

Alienware is a good choice if you want the latest and best in a laptop if you have the money. Some people may say that Alienware is not good. Don't listen to all of them. It depends on what you want in your laptop and the capabilties it can do. Right now Alienware came out with a dual graphics card laptop with an AMD Turion processor. It comes in either a 17'' or 19''. You can get the latest Nvida graphics card in there Area-51 m7700 with desktop processors. Yet it is only a single card. Alienware is the best if you have the money. Another good laptop is the Dell XPS M1710. I don't know Dell that well, but from what i heard, Dell is a good computer for every dollar you spend. Also, Alienware has really great customer service. To see Alienware's lastet laptops. Go to http://www.alienware.com/Intro_Pages/aw_nbsli.aspx?source=3023

Check XPS

The guy who gave the review for the XPS that should be at the top for the most helpful should be able to give you information on which system would better serve you the alienware version or the dell XPS version I still think alienware has a way to go but hey that's just my opinion. Its based on this though when you put when you put non-thermally designed parts in a closly confined place ie laptops you end up with a enviroment that isn't very suitable for the components it contains. So what's that all come out to basically this desktop parts in a laptop can work in small proportions but when you get down to the dual card setup your really looking at something better suited for a desktop not a laptop. I believe the 512MB nVidia card which is exclusivly offered to dell at the moment would be enough to suit your needs in a laptop but like R. Proffitt said ask around a lot of people on here probably own the Alienware systems and they should be able to give you the actual user perspective.
