I am in a bind, i just ordered a Geforce 6800GS $228 CDN and now I see a All-in-Wonder X800XL for $170. Should I return my card and get the X800XL, or is the 6800GS a better buy even at the higher price???
I see a lot of GeForce cards that match the description, could you provide the exact model number? Here are some stats on the ATI though, from newegg.
Memory Clock: 1000 MHz
256MB DDR3 memory
DX9, OpenGL 2.0 support
500MHz Core Clock
16 pipelines
The X800 also has a built in TV tuner, if that is of any interest to you. If you provide me the manufacturer or the model number of your GF card, I can look up some specs for that too.
The card is a PNY GeForce 6800 GS / 256MB GDDR3 / AGP 8x
as seen here:

...because it has SM3.0, whereas the X800 only has SM2.0. Also, you can unlock the 6800GS from 12 to 16 pixel pipelines for increased performance.
i'd get the all-in-wonder x800xl since it's comparable in speed to the geforce 6800gs AND it has the media center features (record/pause tv, etc.)
just make sure you don't have to pay a restocking fee.
I've read on the ATI website the the AIW X800XL has a clock speed of 500Mhz, but the Geforce has 400 Mhz, would this affect the performance?? Also, how is the AIW X800XL for overclocking, unlocking pipes???
here are benchmarks comparing both.

x800xls have little overclocking headroom and already have their full pipelines. 6800gs are known to OC well and can be modded to unlock the disabled pipes.
still, the tv/media features of the a-i-w and the lower price would be the clincher for me.
as for sm3 features like HDR, i don't think they should be enabled on mid-range cards at medium to high resolutions. here are benchmarks for oblivion that show the x800xl outperforming the 6800gs using bloom rendering.

with HDR enabled (the preceding page of that article), the 6800gs framerates drop from 63fps down to 20fps making the game unplayable. HDR is really only practical with radeon x1800+ or geforce 7800+ GPUs.
