I download them to my hard drive, edit them, upload some to my family site, burn the ones I want to keep to CD and then delete all of them from the hard drive.
First, I transfer all the pictures from my camera to my ipod using the camera connector to free up more space on my memory card while still away from the computer. I can even view the pictures on the iPod to. Then when I get home, I just sync my iPod to my Mac where the photos download VERY FAST over USB2 to my iPhoto library. I make all necessary adjustments in iPhoto (crop, straighten, enhance color, fix levels, red-eye removal, etc...) and place them in a folder that I am "Photocasting" to all my Mac-using friends. Once subscribed, those photos in my folder automatically appear (full-resolution) in their iPhoto libraries. No emailing necessary. For my PC-using friends, I created a website using iWeb to showcase all the happenings from that event and others. Occasionally, I'll create a slideshow with zooming, paning, and music in iPhoto or iMovie then burn it to DVD using iDVD along with customized menus then mail that to family or friends.
The last thing I do, I re-sync my iPod so that all the touch-ups I made in iPhoto are reflected in my iPod's photos folder. Then I can whip-out my iPod anytime and show them off. Pretty cool, I think!
My very first action is to edit out those pictures with no real message. That is done within my family cell, back home. Posting on line the remaining ones is my second step. A third step would be to send the creme de la creme (probably two or three) to Wal-Mart for printing.
We Put them on Smug Mug and have been useing
this service for 2 years
Do so many companies and websites like CNET assume that we all think our pictures need to be viewed by everyone on the planet? I just don't get why I would want to share my vacation to Busch Gardens with strangers in Alaska???
I agree fully. I really don't care to see photos of other people's vacations. I don't even care too much about my (extended) family's photos. When I get back with my pictures from any event, I select the ones that friends and family might enjoy, edit them if necessary, and EMAIL them as I feel appropriate.
I assume you are referring to online photo album and sharing websites, since no other option has the ability for strangers in Alaska to see your photos (unless you had your own website). Here's the thing -- you can use these services and share them with whoever you want, but exclude the public. Most sites, like Flickr, let you set permissions on who gets to see your photos.
Now, let's say you only want to share a few photos of Busch Gardens with your family/friends. Using a photo sharing website is by far better than emailing your photos to multiple people. Why? First, because you are saving your family from having to download a large email with attached photos and store them on their hard drive. Second, with most online photo sites, you can add captions to the photos and organize them better than you can with an email. Third, if Mom really wants a copy of Suzy with the giraffes she can usually order her own printed copy through the website without any hassle. I should also mention that having the images saved on an online website makes a nice backup copy in case anything happens to your original file.
I recently just was married and of course had tons of digitial photos from myself and other family members. I use a very convienent site http://www.flickr.com/ that allows you to join up using the site easy sign-up or a yahoo IM id without registering at all which is convienent if you hate going through the process of giving out more info to a stranger. The site has a very handy program that downloads to your pc that enables you to upload your photos quickly and is very easy to use. Hope this helps.
I download the photos/videos onto my editing workstation and clean them up. Digital photos will always need at least sharpening. Then I organize them, burn backups to CD/DVD, then I will post them, send them via email or create a slide show of the photos on CD/DVD for mailing. It depends to whom I am sending the photos.
I print some of them and send to family members. pansy17
1. Download to hard drive.
2. Check and review pics for interest to others.
3. If required, do a little bit of touch up (not too much, try to keep close to original.
4. Resize and start emailing ONLY the good ones.
5. Wait for ecstatic response from recipients!!!!!!!!
I first down load all to my Library, View and delete ones that are not good. Place a copy of the photos into a separate folder adding anything that I nag need like titles etc. Then I Set up into iWeb account through .Mac At this point all of my friends etc. are notified by e-mail of the new images to be viewed. Should I want to have any of the images printed out I send them to a local firm that colour corrects each print. After picking up the prints I inspect and accept or reject the images. If rejected the company I use is more that willing to reprint as requested, Although this service is a bit more expensive the quality of workmanship warrants this move. This system that I use in hassle free and in the long run cheeper than me trying to print them out. Yellowhand
Well, after deleting the rubbish ones, and converting them to a reasonable file size, I'll probably do a combination of things.
Upload some to Photobucket. This means I can send people a link to my relevant photobucket page, and/or write a short blog entry which includes some of the best pictures.
But I won't upload or share too many of them. My parents drive me mad by sending me emails with 100 or more photos attached, always still in the raw format (so huge file size).
90% of the time, I upload my photos and share them with family and friends using Yahoo Photos or Epson Photos. Using Yahoo Photos family and friends are able to view them as a slide show. In any case, photo sharing is a great idea for all involved.
First I download to the HD. Edit anything that is needed using Paint Shop Pro X, saving the edited photo using a -2 so the original is untouched. Catalog everything using Picasa2. I then publish some to my site using mostly Picasa2 and Jalbum. I use Picasa2 to e-mail photos to whoever. I will print out what I need using my Epson R340. Lastly, I will arhcive everything to DVD. I have a lot of DVD's.
