As we all know, the XPS M170 should have gotten the Core Duo upgrades a lot sooner. And, although it had a lot of bang for the buck, it could have used a bit more stuff for that price tag.
I have yet to physically take a look at the Core Duo chip, and I was wondering if the pin arrangement of the Core Duo is the same as the Pentium M Dothan 760.
I think you all know what I'm getting at.
Even if the arrangement is the same, the power supply won't be able to handle the Core Duo, and the mobo most likely won't support it. But I'm still curious about the arrangement.
Both Pentium M Dothan and Core Duo have the say number of pins ( 479 on socket 479 ) but Intel put the pins at different places.
Even if they are pin-to-pin compatible, no BIOS upgrade are available and the old chipset ( i915 XX ) is not compatible with the Core Duo who uses i945 XX chipset.
Voltage of both processor is not the same also :
27 Watt for Dothan
35 Watt for Yonah
