My favorite anti-spyware utility is Counterspy.
I have been using it for almost a year, and find it to be very dependable. It's not free, but at $20/year, is very reasonable. On the other hand, I would not want to be without ZoneAlarm, which I regard as more of an intrusion detector/firewall than anti-spyware.
hitmanpro.nl now in English - freeware. Runs all the best anti-spyware programs consecutively.
Does anyone use Iphantom hardware for an anti-spyware weapon? I know people who swear by it but it sounds shady and expensive to me.
I use F-Secure Internet Security, recommended by my local dealer who also sells PCs and laptops to government agencies that require high security (and he installs F-Secure on those systems). It works seamlessly and quietly in the backgroud, constantly updating without any intrusion. I have remained spyware, adware, and virus-free. Price is right as well.
I use Spy Bouncer..but also have Norton so I seem to be keeping my PC clean..
It is called Mac OS X...
Works every time...
For Windows, with a broadband connection, it is hard to beat Hit Man Pro 2--it runs many of the programs listed. For Mac OSX I haven't been able to find an antispyware program . . . guess that says a lot.
I HAVE BOTH ADAWARE AND ZONEALARM ON MY COMPUTER HOWEVER I FIND ADAWARE FINDS A LOT MORE SPYWARE THAN ZONELABS IT IS EASY TO USE/UNDERSTAND AND WHEN YOU ARE NOT A "SPECIALIST" IT GIVES A SENSE OF SECURITY KNOWING THAT WHAT YOU DELETE IS NOT GOING TO AFFECT OTHER PARTS OF THE PROGRAMMES THAT ARE NORMAL HAVE PREVIUSLY HAD TREND MICRO BUT HAD IT REMOVED AS IT WAS CONSTANTLY IN DISPUTE WITH OTHER APPLICATIONS ON MY SYSTEM AS FOR PEST PATROL I COULD NOT GET IT TO WORK AT ALL ,,,COULD BE ME BUT SURELY THE WHOLE POINT IS INSTALL USE NO "FIDDLING ABOUT"
Best utility hands down. Its tedious to verify whether each file is Spyware/Adware or not, but the result is programs that I installed but keep getting flagged such as GameSpy Arcade does not get disabled. I'm a IGN Founder's Club member, so I don't get ads on GameSpy and I access premium servers for games such as BF2 and GRAW. Back to the utility, its great because it also does not take resources to run or occupy precious storage space.
I've tried various other anti-spyware packages from time to time over the years. Although I can't say I've tried them all, I'm not surprised to see Lavasoft Ad-Aware in first position in the voting poll. After running other packages, I follow-up with Ad-Aware SE Plus, only to find left-over spyware that the first package failed to remove!
The 'Plus' meaning "Ad-Watch" which not only blocks cookies left and right, but has warned me time after time when something wants to "'Write to my Registry'- Do you want to Block or Accept it?'"
That alone is well worth the extra cost of the "Plus" Editon.
Try it, you'll Like it!
It's not free BUT they issue daily updates and frequent upgrades. They are in the race to remain, or become, the best out there.
I'm a shareware junkie and have tried a lot of products ( at great risk to my PC ). It just doesn't get any better than this.
I would definitely go with Adaware. It is simply the best.
I have Microsoft beta2, Defender antispyware and run AOL spyware. I can run all of them first and they find few if any spyware programs. When I run Adaware, it almost always finds programs the others miss, and it is FREE for personal use.
You must try it. It costs nothing...
I have one computer with Windows 98SE and one computer with Windows XP. The 98SE I use Spybot, Adware SE, ZoneAlarm, and Norton Antivirus. The XP I use Spybot, Adware SE, ZoneAlarm, and Trends PCCillin full version. All these programs work very well together to clean my machines.
