Question

Have you noticed if Spysweeper installed tracking spyware of its own?

Dreslinski59: Webroot and tracking spyware

by scott_789 - 5/29/06 4:57 AM In reply to: Question by Dreslinski59

I'm really not sure what you mean by that, Dreslinski, but I've used SpySweeper for some time now and have run other scans (Ad-Aware, Spybot and even a couple online Kaspersky scans) that didn't come up with anything.

My take on SpySweeper? I think it's pretty thorough, and convenient to just run one scan. Recently though, it reported a legitimate installation of a peer-to-peer app (and all of its associated registry entries) as a low-level threat. I emailed them about it and when I scanned a couple days later it didn't show up. So I think that they're somewhat on top of things.

Same here!

I too have used the Microsoft antispyware and the adaware program. But neither found the spyware that Webroot Spysweeper found. It has been worth the money to know that some of the harder to find spyware is kept off my computer.

Webroot Spysweeper gets my vote.

I agree with charles431. I work on computers and help others remove infections and I have been using Spysweeper for a few years now and I like it the best. They all have pros and cons but Spysweeper is the best overall program, especially if you just want to use one program.

Best buy and the geek squad are corporate weasels

by yourpcmedic - 5/9/06 10:28 PM In reply to: Webroot Spysweeper is worth the money. by charles431

The only reason that the majority of SpySweeper users have the product is that some shill at Best Buy sold it to them. These are the same guys that have told my customers that DDR memory has to be upgraded in pairs, and that the brand name of memory affects compatibility with their computer. If you want to know the truth, ask an expert that does not sell product and has no financial stake in the answer.

Majority Spysweepers not shilled.

Spysweeper works. Got s/w at Kim Komando's, with discount, per link. Now there's a shill. :) bitnap

True.

Yes, Spysweeper is worth your money. Against other anti spyware and virus progs, Spysweeper seems to get the most off of my computer and even remove some that are not removeable by others such as Spy doc or lavasoft( although in lava's defense they are more spyware I think and dont detect some of those that the sweeper does).

Quite simply, I use a Mac

by ROBOCUB - 5/9/06 7:00 PM In reply to: Which antispyware utility would you use? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Contrary to popular discussion lately, the Mac OS platform does not suffer from spyware or viruses. Some people may say, "not for long", yet even if the Mac, it wont be nearly on the scale that Windows does.

Bingo!

by leonbev - 5/9/06 7:40 PM In reply to: Quite simply, I use a Mac by ROBOCUB

This person hit the nail right on the head. If you want to fix your spyware problem, the best way to do it is by avoiding software prone to spyware infection.

If you're serious about stopping spyware, the best way to do it is to stop using Internet Explorer and use another browser. Opera, Firefox, Safari on the Mac... All of them are more or less immune to "drive by downloads" and ActiveX spyware infections right now.

Anti-virus programs

by theREALbartdog - 6/11/06 5:27 PM In reply to: Bingo! by leonbev

I have read with interest the different anti-virus programs people use to protect their investment. As the old saying goes, I guess these things are a "dime a dozen" to pick from.

I am mac user since 1985, however, I don't criticize those who do not share my same interest in the Apple world. My computer of choice is the iMac G5 with 1.8 ghz of ram.

I have the Norton anti-virus program running almost 24/7 because I usually leave my computer on so it can perform its internal maintanence when I am sleeping.

There have been several times when I was downloading some of interest to me off the internet when Norton would intercept and tell me that a Trogan Horse has tried get past my firewal of protection. It automacally puts this "thing" in a place where it cannot hurt my system or anything else that I value in my computer.

I believe that someday these hackers will start with ernest to invade the Mac world. Whether it be the PC or the Mac computer, what is so important is to find the right program that not only suits your computing style, but is very effective in protecting your files, etc.

WRONG!!!

by r_rayjr - 5/10/06 1:42 AM In reply to: Quite simply, I use a Mac by ROBOCUB

You need to do some more research or go back to school or something.

BECAUSE MAC's CAN AND HAVE GOTTEN VIRUSES, AND SPYWARE. I do not know why people think that MAC's are so superior to PC that they can't get Viruses or Spyware. I have worked with MAC's that have had both. Yes, PC's do get more attaches, but they are not perfect either. I have worked on both and years ago I knew more about MAC's than I did window's based PC's. But the jobs I worked for and the Military command I was with changed out from MAC's to PC's. But before they did both Jobs I worked at got Viruses on their MAC's. At the time they didn't have Spyware or no one know about it yet.

So as I said I have worked with both MAC's and window's based PC's, and now with everthing I have learned from my time in the Military, and later when I went to college working on my engineering degree I have come to like window's based PC's better then MAC's. The only thing I have not learned to do on a PC that I did on a MAC it how to write my own programs.

Wrong?

Since you know so much about Macs and I am a new Mac user, perhaps you can help me find an antispyware program that runs on an intel iMac.

by r_rayjr - 2/11/08 4:37 AM In reply to: Touche by renyalford

Sorry I am late I turned of the notify thing about this post so I did not see that post. I was looking thru some of my old post and saw a reply to this. Anyway!!!

But you can find a program, JUST GO TO A MAJOR COMPUTER STORE LIKE COMPUSA and tell them that you want an Antivitus program. Or you can go to the apple website and order it there. Also If you would hav read my FULL post, you would have seen that I had all ready listed one place that has MAC Anti-Virus Programs And that is MCAFFEE, and I believe that Norton also has a program for MAC...

Post 60 of 228

In fact!!!

by r_rayjr - 2/11/08 5:21 AM In reply to: Touche by renyalford

Just ot help you find it since You don't seem to know Her is a link for Norton's Anti-virus program for MAC

http://www.symantec.com/norton/theme.jsp?themeid=compchart-macintosh

And here is an information page on MAC Viruses http://www.mcafee.com/us/local_content/datasheets/ds_virusscan_for_mac.pdf

And more infor at http://www.mcafee.com/us/about/press/corporate/2006/20060505_12524_u.html

I tried to find there program for it but couldn't. I tried to do a chat with the Customer srevice to find the link, but they wanted to to call there customer service number to order the MAC program. I tried telling them that I just needed the link. but the again told me to call their 800 number. But anyway, you can see that Norton has a program. And the links that McAfee has that says that MAC's can get Viruses and Malware also says that McAfee has a program too, but have to jump thru hoops the see it or order it...
